    hi

I have no idea which vehicle this axle is off so am unsure which brake drum parts to buy.
Being in the UK I don’t want to buy the wrong parts
    All I’ve found out is
    31 spline shafts
    5x5.5” bolt pattern
    64.75” wide

    Drum has
    Max dia 11.12

Shoes (this is not right I’m sure)
    1 at 12” x 2.25 (handbrake)
    1 at 11.75” x 2.25 ( handbrake)
    2 at 9.5” x 2.25

Grateful for any and all help

    how about some pictures?

And how are you measuring the shoes?

  3. So you need drum brake parts, what exactly, for an 11" diameter drum with 2 1/4" wide shoes.

    Probably something like a 1975 F100, with 11-1/32 x 2-1/4" brakes, eh?

Had a quick search around and found the diff tag.

Managed to decode it he tag and if I’m right it comes out as a 78-79 F150

I know the ring gear was correct as I’ve swapped it for a 3.25

    What are other people’s thoughts

That’s the thing there seem to be a fair few to choose from

  8. the OP asks about drum brake parts. Again, what do you need? Springs would be drum brake parts. Wheel cylinders, shoes, and ........

look up a 1978 F150 and see it it uses that same size shoe, and if so, order your parts.

Again, pictures of the brakes would help us help you....

  11. You will find a few available widths and diameters for any specific year. Definitely as said before, some pictures, preferably with a measuring tape beside the parts.

  12. Measure the drum depth (where the shoes contact..) and subtract a 1/2". That will be your shoe width. Kinda of a rough way to source shoes but it works. If that fails go with what Squirrel recommends.

I’ve just looked up on rock auto for a 78 and they still have different shoes
    11”x2.25”
    11 1/32”x2.25”

And another just saying for 11.03 drum

I think you're overthinking this. Sounds an awful lot like a basic issue, and it's new enough that your local Napa likely has stuff for it. Shoot, even one of the other chain joints might have them. Pick up a set of shoes for $25-30 bucks, add in a hardware kit, and if you need wheel cylinders, likely $20-25 apiece. You'll likely find all three of the options you list above will fit, especially if you have the drums turned or buy new drums.

Looks like I’ll have to do that.
Only problem I was having was, as I’m in the UK returning wrong parts is not an option.
Just have to take the gamble.

11.03= 11-1/32. The clue that his is the correct size, is the MAX DIA marking of 11.120" which equates to 11.03 + .090 max allowable wear.

Yes, you are getting a bit too worried about it...

  18. Look closely at the wheel cylinders and brake shoes. There may be part numbers that you can use.

Since the drum is 11.12, then get the large 11 1/32 shoe, the wheel cylinders shouldn't differ much as other parts I would guess. Rockauto often has pictures of what you are buying, so use that feature. Good luck.

Thanks for all the help and advice. Thought I might be looking into it maybe too hard but only like to buy things once.

Ah, yeah, I wondered if you might be outside the states. If you're getting new drums too, I wouldn't go with the 11 1/32, as that will be a bit big. If you're re-using drums and getting them turned, they'd likely work fine. They'd likely work fine either way, but might wear a bit fast and inconsistent initially.

Springs and hardware should be the same regardless.

uh....there are two different sizes of drums that Ford used, the earlier trucks had 11x1-3/4 or 2" shoes, the later ones had 11-1/32 x 2.25 shoes.

Just make sure the drums and shoes are for the same setup.
