I would like to put a 9 inch ford rear into my 1936 Ford.
I know that it is a common install. BUT The pinion yokes all seem to be shifted to the right on 9" Ford rears. I put a 74 Bronco rear in with Ch***is Engineering leaf springs and the driveshaft will not go into the driveshaft/ transmission tunnel.
It is about 1 inch too far to the right.
Has anyone done this and can you tell me what rear will go into the tunnel?
    Thanks

I've put a couple of 9" rear ends into older vehicles. One of the axles came out of a '70 F100 and the other came out of a '66 F100. On both of those axles the pumpkin is centered. I know on some of the 4 wheel drive axles they were off center. The problem with the ones I used is that they are pretty wide. I think the early Bronco axles are some of the narrowest 9" housings out there.

You might have to re-do your tunnel, look for a different axle housing or get a wider housing shortened to fit your needs.

I'm sure someone must have done this swap without all of the headaches you're having. Are the 35-40 ch***is roughly the same? I'd find someone that has successfully done what you want to and copy what they did and used.

Thanks for the quick reply. The rear that I need is about 58" flang to flang to fit in the 36.
Yes, the 35 to 40 ch***is is the same. There has to be lots of people out there that have done this and it has to be a simple answer.
    Thanks Again

There is alot of confusion concerning the offset of 9" rear ends. It is pretty simple:

-ALL leaf spring Ford 9" equipped cars from '57-'80 have a centered pinion. The axles on a centered pinion rear end will have the left axle 4 1/4" shorter that the right axle. The "pot" will not be centered on a centered pinion housing.

-Ford coil spring equipped rear ends from '65-'79 have the pinion offset to the right about 1 1/2".

-Ford truck rear ends from '57-'84 have the pinion offset to the right about 2". The axles on these rear ends will be the same length left and right. The "pot" on these housings will be centered more or less.

-'66-'77 Bronco rear ends have the pinion offset to the right 1".
