Hey gang! I just wanted to know if there was any difference to using Buick 12inch 90 fin drums vs. the 45 fin ones on a 47 ford front brake set up? Why do the 45 fin ones seem to be more sought after? I found lots of info on the 45fin ones in the archives but not much about the 90 fin ones. J.
45's were also popular on rods from the late 50's and 60's. They are a traditional piece - the 90's never caught on.
90 fins gives more square inches of aluminum for heat dissipation though....so, in theory, they were an improved version.
They're probably less expensive and easier to find, too. People will see them and wonder what the hell they are. And if you have a fendered car, then it makes no difference at all, as no one will be able to see them.
Saw these in a swap meet yesterday 12-01-07 at Wall Township Speedway in BElmar, NJ....kind of kicking myself that I didn't buy them, but I really didn't need them anyway.
that deal was too good to pass up. Hope somebody got them. A pair of 45 fin drums in decent shape can easily go for $300.
All three appeared to be in good shape, bead blasted and maybe even cut on a brake lathe. If I needed them...I'd have jumped on that deal.
