94 carbs

I don't know how common knowledge this is, but I found that, on the 94s, although the bases look the same as the earlier carbs, they are not the same. I took an 8BA carb apart, and found that it had a base that lacked a vacuum p***age that it was supposed to have. Someone had taken it apart before, and had put the base from a pre-'48 carb on it. I bet that gave someone fits trying to figure out why the engine fell on its face when you opened the throttle.
