So I have a couple of old 97s that I have stripped for rebuild ,soaked in atf acetone mixtures and all sorts of other recipes found on the net. Everything comes apart beautifully except the power valve in both carbs. So of course l end up mashing the screwdriver slot in the head trying to get them out. So I ended up using a nice snug fitting socket with a little round hole in the centre to act as a drill guide so I was able to accurately drill into the top of the power valve (3/16 drill) Drilled into it about 1/4 of an inch then it came out with an easy out Now the thing that was interesting was when l went to put the new power valve in it just did not seem to screw in enough . Was not even close to seating properly so l ended up running a tap down into where the valve screws and seems to have done the job.
I soak my carbs in molasses/water mix then put them in the dishwasher to free up the screws and power valves.
I had to use an easy out to get mine out as well. A bottoming tap does clean up the threads. They are a normal NF thread as luck would have it.
