Any opinions on using a '99 c30 ch***is for my '41 Ford COE project??

To me it seems like a good candidate ... front track of 64" seems about right, front steer (non-r&p), 159" w/b should be long enough to be able to mount the engine behind the cab and this is a heavy duty model so it has the dually rear with 16" wheels. I thing its the narrow dually rear too at 83" width. This is a utility model so the frame is straight from the cab back.

The only issue I see is that the frame kicks out under the cab to about 48" wide - not sure if this will be an issue or not.

    Thoughts or opinions ???

I think it sounds perfect, but only you will be able to tell by measuring and mocking it up. Go for it and let us know!

  3. I used a 73 C20 Ch***is under my 41 Ford COE but fitted a C30 rear end to it
two of the rear cab mounting holes even lined up, in my opinion you can't do better then a C20/C30 Ch***is.
If you haven't been to the link below before then there are lots of examples of COE's on Chevy and other Ch***is.

The kick out might be an issue with the running boards and the aprons above them. You also need to look at the rear of the fenders to make sure they will clear the kick out too.

This is the sort of stuff I'm looking for - potential issues. Nice ti be able to have a plan in place before being confronted with a surprise that can set you back.

I'm going to agree with bill here. I too think the 1973-1987 3/4 ton ch***is is ideal for these early Ford COEs. It is the right width and when converted to the van steering box, it looks almost engineered for these trucks. I personally used a 1987 R20 ch***is. This is basically the same as the C20 bill used other than the body mounts and gas tank location.

Now I really wanted to use a ford ch***is and keep it all ford. But they are far from ideal. Believe me, I looked at a lot of different ch***is and it became very clear which is the best choice in many ways.

Well the '99 was too good to p*** up. I know the earlier are better suited but finding one that's not all rotten is next to impossible in this area. If this one looks like it won't do then i'll start the search again. However I don't think the frame kickout will be an issue as the total width is only around 48" and the coe cab is around 60".

It will work. Corvettesander used one on his build. Check it out on the main page.
