I like all 4 cars in your post but I still have a soft spot for A-bones so my choice would be this '29 pickup. The price falls well into the 15K challenge and with the left over funds I'd put in a '32 axle, '34 front brakes, T rear spring and a set of '32 18" wheels...all of which I have on the shelf except for the wheels which I stupidly sold last year. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/29-ford-pickup.1194149/#post-13599663 I also like this '37 Pontiac. Little over budget but it'd be a fun car to just enjoy the way it is, maybe lower it just a little bit. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1937-pontiac.1197890/#post-13644954
Since I have knowledge and spare parts for these p/u's, I'd go for this one from Colorado. Listed for $12K, I'd try my best to negotiate it down $500-$1,000, giving me some money to go towards transporting it (using HAMB guys) from Colorado to Washington State. Truck reportedly has a good frame, is solid, requiring a bit of floor pan repair. Already has choice new tires/wheels Comes with '57 283 needing rebuild-which I'd sell, and use engine/trans I already have. Purchase price $11,500 transport $900 New Glass. rubber, channel kit $500 TCP primer/paint $500 Credit selling the '57 283 <-$150> Upholstery/headliner kit $700 EZ wire kit $190 Misc. extra unforeseen cost title transfer 10% $1450 Total + or - $15,500 + 6 mos-1 year of my hard work I may have talked myself into doing this for real, except I already have two "41 p/u projects in the works.
This is where I would start, https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/barn-find-1940-ford-coupe.1197899/ I am a glutton for punishment, and I like 40's but only have trucks $3,000 to buy $1,000 to ship leaving $11,000 to make it any of the following: Hot Rod with an early OHV, Kustom with a Carson Top, a non-record achievable Land Speed Vehicle maybe with a 302 GMC take your pick
I would take your 15k and toss in another 12k of my own money and buy a certain 32 highboy roadster.... just so I don't have to look at it every 4-5 days in the classifieds... Chappy
I'd probably try to buy the project 33 sedan in Ohio. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/33-ford-2dr-added-new-photos-and-pricing.1152395/ I've always wanted a 32-34 Ford, and this one has some good parts that go with it.
having had a 50 Coupe recently that ran like a raped ape, had great brakes but needed a lot of body work and a repaint I think I would have to tale to Jack about the coupe, it appears to be ready to go. HRP
Out of the choices shown, my lazyness to look for others, and the hop in it and smoke the tires factor, that f100 is perfect. Decent looking outside, hot motor, nice upholstery Maybe try to talk it down a bit, fly in and drive it home
I would like to take the money and do a benefit car show. I would get a bunch of great door prizes and a lot of trophy's and have a free lunch for all who entered the show. If there is any left maybe have a band. Depending on how much money would be raised would depend on what group to donate to. If I was 25 years younger I consider building a nice truck, but that bus left the station. Bill
$15K is a dangerous price for an old car. It straddles that line in between really nice driver and total shitbox, and you just don't know which way it's going to go. Let's face it, for $15K, you're not going to get anything close to a finished car (in a halfway desirable body style, meaning no 4 doors). Something has to give somewhere, and some aspect of the car is lacking. I think it a lot of ways you're a lot better off buying a car that is much cheaper, or much more expensive.
Appears to be a very solid old Fairlane. I like Fairlanes. If the car is as solid as he says it is, it would make a very nice little gasser project and the money you'd save fixing rust and bodywork can go straight into the mill. He's asking $16,500, I would start at $12,500 and probably end up picking it up for between $13,500 and $14. Once that stack of hundreds comes out... Would still have cash for transport and at least a case of beer. So I guess with the car, the tow, and the Old Milwaukee, thats three ways to spend that $15K.
listed at 8500. say ya pick it up in the 7500 range. I can do a lot for 7500 bucks on my own stuff remove the chassis and blast and paint rebuild the stock brakes and suspension. have the front axle stretched, dropped rear spring/flatten x member. taildragger style. use the 283 and flathead trans adapter I have chop the posts, sink the conv top frame and add Mexican blankets to the interior. Leave the exterior as is. Everything you need for this one is all there. Even the wheels and caps. Owner says the flathead is gone but the trans is still there Id drive the wheels off of it
I've been ogling that same '54 F100 and the '46 sedan as well. Another car that, aside from it's lowly 4-door status, looks to be really nice is this '40 sedan complete with a sweet little 283. They're asking $15,500 for it, so right in the ballpark.
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1941-ford-coupe.1170771/#post-13643116 I’m not sure if this fits in the Quick and Easy or the Hot Rod category? Either way it’s as cute as a bug, and with a little speed equipment on the engine it would have some sting too. And still be under budget.
now if the 15k worth of HAMB buck was extended to FB marketplace, this would be the purchase. listed at 7700 Make it run and stop, bolt the fenders and hood back on and enjoy of course it gets built in the classic taildragger style.
Can't beat this with a stick! Maybe put a Caddy in it with the left over $$. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1950-ford-tudor.1194468/
I hate to say it, but any car posted for sale at $25-30K is fodder for this thread. An asking price is just that. This is how I ended up buying my 56 Olds a couple weeks ago. I made what I thought was an insulting offer that wound up getting accepted. Wayne Gretzky said "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take". He's right.
The 58 roadster race car. 8k offer. Use the remaining 7k for transport and whatever else pops up. The 34 Modified. 4k offer, the leftover to make it over my way. At this point in my life I only mess with stuff that has never had a title. I don't need a road car.
I'll play! Maybe this thread will generate some deals!? #1 -'29 sedan delivery conversion for 15k. Needs some work but I like it. #2 -'28 roadster. A little more than the 15k asking price but 150 $100 bills might get 'er done! #3 -'47 Coupe. Not as desirable as a '39-'40 but a good bit cheaper. Asking $17.5k but again, 150 $100 bills might close the deal.
This 57 Cad is 12500 € ,which I think is very tempting, all original paint , imported from Cali in ´92 and parked inside ever since.
