I got an email in July from a fellow that had a few questions about some Flatties that he had. He was possibly wanting to sell them (please don't PM me, I'll post when/if he decides to do so). Anyway, I ***ume he just randomly emailed me from here, the MSN site or from the Barn. Here's the first correspondence:

    "Mr. Holmes-
This maybe a strange email, yet I am thinking people with p***ions for the flathead realize that nothing is strange. My deceased father collected flathead motors which led us to have about 15 motors and not knowing what to do with them. They have been in storage for the past 20 or so years and we are now looking at the viability of selling them. Do you know of anywhere or anyone whom may give us guidance as to where to sell or even what cost?

Thank you very much for your time and effort!

    Chat soon-
    Name"

Well, I perk right up when anyone say the word "Flathead," and I immediately responded to him. I explained how there would probably be some honest fellas in his area that I could hook him up with that could help him. But I also asked him, "Did your father's engine collection include any cars or misc. parts, too?" When you get a lead, you have to chase it all the way out!

Guys, as a side note, when you're sitting in a hospital waiting room, spark up a conversation with the ole' fella sitting next to you. I have found MANY leads to things this way.

    Here's his response

You must know the mind of a true car enthusiast! Yes, there is a 32 3-window completly all original. My father found it in a garage on a farm from the orginal owner believe it or not. That I have adopted as a project car once my harley is paid off...hehehee. Yet my brother has been working on his 52 Ford truck, yet we sold the 46 Ford coupe which we grew up going to car shows all over the *. My parents were members of the * Car club out of *. He never was able to complete any of his "project" cars since he was always helping others get cars running. It is funny, yet my mother told us when he p***ed in 1981 (i was 8, my brother 11) that God was having trouble with his car and needed our father to come up and fix it...what an easy way for me to understand. Sorry to add that, yet realizing your p***ion for vehicles I knew you would enjoy how my mother told us about his untimely death.

She is going to be heading up to our property in * this weekend. I am having her take many pictures to attach to you of the engines and all that they encomp***.

Well, we all know that if you don't ask if something is for sale, you'll kick yourself for the rest of your life (I know it's rude and brazen, but I couldn't help it!!!). I didn't hear from him for the longest time because I thought I offended him or sounded too pushy (and I could certainly understand someone feeling that way). I was cleaning out my old email folder and saw the correspondence and thought I just ask him, "Did you fall off the face of the earth? I was flipping through my emails and ran across yours....." That was in October and I never heard from him. So, I thought, yep, he washed his hands of me......

Out of the blue tonight, I get an email from him with a pic attached. Whoah! It's not a hot rod that we all go gah gah over, but how can you not appreciate this?

Here's what he said, and here's the pic.....

    Jeff-
Sorry about the drop off...it feels as though I have. I coach wrestling at the high school level...a bit of time focused on it to say the least! I attached a picture of the 32 on the day we bought it back in the late 70's...it does not look much different.
Hope your Thanksgiving was enjoyable and memory filled!

Please, if you know who, where or what about this, DON'T SAY. I told him I'd keep it private until he decides to do something. We all know there are a LOT of lurkers. I think I read where Ryan posted like only 25% of the HAMB's activity is from it's registered users. I really appreciate it!

The engines are too far for me and I'm sure he's quite partial to the car.....I'm just gonna try and hook him up with some fellas that can help him unload some of the engines he doesn't need. I told him he'd better wait and see what he needs from them first.....

If you post here and on the FordBarn......and I know Flathead Youngin does.....LOTS OF LURKERS........

Some strange stuff will come to your email.
Folks asking about a stash they found, a photo of a certain part........parts for sale and the like. I posted a wanted ad on FordBarn for a few 32 3W parts and got well over a dozen emails.....some asking questions, a few wanting to shoot the breeze and a few with the parts I wanted. Some are there to jerk your chain.....

6 or 8 folks have sent photos of cars.......requesting a " what's it worth " value question....or can you identify this....

Love the 3W photo.......stay after it.........you never know..
