A 32 to Die For

  1. Kind of reminds me of the Tulipwood Lagonda, not exactly sure why it was done, but interesting, none-the-less.

Do you mean the Tulipwood Hispano Suiza?

The Deuce is not my kind of car, but I admire the workmanship...

I think the Oregon plate on this car used to be, or maybe still is 'KNOTTY'. Like it or not - Gotta give the guy credit for imagination and not being belly ****on. I look at some of these kid's rice rockets and can see some pretty cool things going on. they are where they are at, we are where we are at. Some of them are going to cross over our way someday, and when they do - we'll say 'where the hell did they come from....'. I have said it before, but some of the older fellas here I would bet did Mini Trucks, VW's, Sport Trucks and all kinda other things. Looking for the cool in the work, and the p***ion that went into it is where it's at. Someday someone may look back on what he have done and say "what were they thinking". I bet they even do that today! So what. Love what ya do - do what ya love. :)

At least he can drive it. That makes it more useful than the Caddy made out of marble or granite that was on here about a month ago.
I can't imagine the amount of hours something like that would take.

I'm thinkin' that car was built in the 80s(or earlier?), had a couple pics in magazines here and there.
An interesting exercise for a super wood craftsman also interested in cars.
Probably worth a first place from Handyman Magazine or Popular Mechanics to take its place in the gallery of oddities.

  11. As to the question of "WHY",I would reply with the question,"Why did that guy who built the 1/4 scale running Ferrari spend 15 years of his life working on it?".Because he could maybe.Because it was challenge maybe.Because the guy is a craftsman and an artist to boot without a doubt.I think they call it "pushing the envelope".

Whether you love it or hate it is moot.It doesn't fit in any mold and it is most ***uredly art.I couldn't even THINK about doing that caliber of workmanship. The fact that it actually functions is icing on the cake.

The only problem I had was keeping the drool off my shirt.

for all the guys who ask "why" im sure lots of people have said that about lots of things, you obviously just dont get innovation & creativity.

think about things like the ardun heads, im sure people said why? why bother its just an old flathead, just go buy a SBC - these heads are legendary now... and im sure there are many other parts/pieces like that can be mentioned many times over.

if all you can think is if why you got a sad life.

At least he didn't carve up some wooden oldsmobile rocket valve covers for that sbc. He really would have caught hell for that!
Looks like lots of time and talent, not what I would have done, but hey, I have trouble with wood , you can't weld to it!
