I love this thread! I love basket case resurrections. If anybody ever thinks that their project is too rough to save, they should read this entire thread. If this thread doesn't motivate you, check your pulse.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Damn, there's more Spam on the HAMB than there is in Austin, MN! Car is looking good though......... PS - dig the avatar, gee our old Lasalle ran great.
I know I'm just an FNG but I say save it! When I went to buy my Model T I was the second person there. The first guy was a restorer & I can still hear him laughing & saying " There's nothing left to save!"
It's been way too long since working on my willys coupe! I took an NHRA tagged cage from an old willys gasser fiberglass car that I sold a few months back. I cut out the bent bar from when the car hit the wall and welded in a new bar. It had a lot of goofy pieces welded as well so I cut out the old and tried to make it like a 60's style. The ladder bars were from the same car and needed a little work as well. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
It's amazing how many parts I've recycled from other gassers and willys sedans. I took these old ladder bars and robbed some heim joints from another set and made my version. I bought $40 leaf spring brackets from Auto Zone and machined solid steel bushings for my front ladder bar bracket.
Grrrreat job! I tink you should get the car running and not touch the body(as far as grinding down welds, paint etc.) for a couple seasons and call it "FrankenWillys"! It would be a shame to hide all yer great metalwork....right away at least....but wuddo i know....
Thanks to Don Waldron I now have a set of recycled gasser headers, of course i will change out the collectors.
I did my final welding on the Willys rear suspension, so it's now a CHASSIS!! I also added rain gutters.
looks alot better than what you started w/ .... glad you saved it and it gets to have a new life being on the road again ... =)
