A bit O/T, but have you ever seen a DeLorean in a junkyard?

  1. Not entirely true. I've sold many a vehicle out of my yard that are on the road today. The only ones that cannot go on the road are unrebuildable insurance salvage (you get a non-repairable cert for it) and possibly certain vehicles seized by law enforcement. Also cars sold to the state through the smog buyback programs.

Once the yard gets it, they turn in the vehicle's paperwork to the DMV with a form called an acquisition form. The state runs the car through DOJ and everywhere else, and gives you an acquisition #.
The yard gives you a bill of sale with that acq# on it, you go to DMV, get the vin # inspected, brake, light, smog, and pay your fees.
New plates and a Salvage ***le..
    away you go.

Alot of yards just don't like selling cars. You will end up with the whole town coming through thinking they can get cars for a few 100 bucks.

Not a g***er technically, that one competes in the A/Plutonium cl***. It's fast, it can get to the end of the 1/4 50 years before it left.

At least it won't rust away to pieces like most cars in the junk yards around here...

A friend of mine lives near Greenville, he has a pretty nice :)confused:) DeLorean. I dunno, he's had it forever, think he got it non-running for a few hundred bucks and figured it out for himself.

If that yard is in SC, maybe you could p*** along the info so I can give him the heads up.

For those ****heads bought up on SBC's these were a serious bit of gear in an Alpine and really only suffered at the hands of dimwits who didn't know how to change oil or check coolant levels.

Thanks for the info. I remember in the eighties/nineties there were a lot of hoops you had to jump through, as you described. I know there are certain cars they won't sell like the ones turned in under vehicle retirement plans and smog buy back. I was told they couldn't legally sell a complete car once it hit the line in the yard to be parted out.
I have talked to the yard mgr's before and bought two cars and gone thhough the whole process, but these were cars they would have probably put out for sale and not parted.
    Thanks again.

Didn't see it first hand...but apparently there is/was one here several years ago with no floor pan left in it.
Seems just the VISIBLE outer body panels are stainless. The floor and everything else is just regular steel like any other car on the road!

Thanks for the list of what vehicles to avoid.

From working on them when they were current, I found out its a piece of **** engine.
And was hard to find used parts for them, because everybody is looking for the same pieces.

And that is from somebody who worked on stuff like that before I graduated to engines like the SBC...

And besides that, its pretty O/T...
