    Last shot for now......
Definitely can confirm the black A coupe was Dukes(top left)

The primered 34 was Tony Browns(Dukes Brother) 34 3 window that ran an early Nailhead.... he bought that car for $75 .... that was huge money... he drove that car all the way out to California and back.... staying in California for a year... then coming home. Tony told me he had to wear 2 pairs of socks on his hands while coming back from California in the mountains through a snow storm....
No heater and big balls driving your Hotrod Cross country in 1963.

The Chevy is Dukes Kustom in 56(?)......
......and the White 33-34 5 window is a members car in 59 at the drag Track.... I am thing Kohler Drag track.

That headlight trim mod on that is really cool...actually he just really nailed it in every way...

In my first ten or so years I grew up in the Lakeview area around Cawthra and Lakeshore...not far from that Clubhouse near Dixie and QEW...

Glad he did...I likely wouldn't have saw them...they so belong don't they...always stuff coming out of the dusty archives...

Just a shout to the older crowd out there...share those old Hotrod/Custom pics...they are very moving as well as a great companion to the stories...

Oh man, I haven't seen Ron in a bit, we worked together at Courtesy Chev Olds before I joined Etobicoke Fire. When I was a kid, Ronnie was a Sunday school teacher at the church on Tenby St near Royal York and Queensway and always driving hot rods. He had a green Hudson coupe (a 39, I think) for quite a while. I remember a different version of the Meteor with a "drawer pull" grille and chrome bumper.

Hey Jeff, you'll get a kick out of this; check out the winners for street roadster and modified sports. This was a report from Kohler Dragway in 1961.

Yes, Jack was likely running the Olds powered 27. Bob at that point had a 50's Volvo P444 custom! Nosed, decked, tube grille, nerfs, Appletons, Lucas headlights with the bullets, molded lake pipes, rolled pans, whitewall Firestones and Moon discs, light green metallic and very white naugahyde. Probably still Volvo powered; it was called "The Fakir". It was at one of those Speed N Sport shows in 61 or 62, my oldest brother, who was in the Etobi-Cams with Bob, snuck me in on setup night, I was 8 or 9 years old. I remember spot lights, matching gas/oil/water cans and angel hair...........

So...... ,some more info On Ron and his cars... well known he had a 39 Hudson coupe,..... Ron sent me a note and hopefully we can communicate by phone in the butte..
    The Hudson.
I believe he had this many years. and it kinda evolved into an early gasser of some sorts.
    Dang Kids.

    the message....

Have attached a few pics of my 1939 Hudson..this was "my" car as the "A" even tho I owned & loved it for 2-3yrs was always Bill Balzer's my chum who built it in my mind..I added the nerf bars which I made as well as adding a heater (scrounged an old rear underseat unit from an old Packard limo from our local wreckers) and tidied a few things up..he was busy working on his roadster project and sold me the A to help finance it. The Hudson was mine from finding it to doing 90% of the work on it. Including completely re-wiring it using my little Hot Rod magazine guidebook..front to back.
I kept it more or less stock appearing for the first dozen or so years then like you felt a "Gasser" would be the thing..and so it was. It was fun to rumble in to out of town Burger Kings or whatever the local hangout was with a young Mrs. P looking cool on a Friday or Saturday night with the collectors open...Unforgettable times. It looked bad and it was bad.
    have a good weekend.

  14. Jeff, earlier in this thread you mentioned Duke Brown. I remember meeting and dealing with him, and Tony, when we were involved with CSRA and the Nationals here in the Soo. A little side story, my friend Paul Horton was getting his 40 painted by Duke and he called to confirm the drop off date was still on. Duke just said, "Yes, I said March 15, and out March 25, and that's the way I work. No delays, no issues". It's been sometime, so I'm very likely off on the dates and exact word, but you can get the drift.

upload_2024-6-1_2-20-8.png Normal stance with a slight rake... interspersed with a nice story/set of photos from the old days...

    Hello,

I was drawing a Model A street/drag coupe for St. Patrick’s Day thread. The Model A was green for obvious reasons. But the rear and cab looked off kilter. So, for this thread, it ended up a nice simple Model A Coupe with a chopped top and some nice Moon Aluminum discs with white wall tires. If the real thing was lowered, here it is in all of its fairly legal stance, being as low as one can get without being stopped by the CHP in So Cal.

But, there is always room for a slight lowering of the front end to have a “lowered rake.”

This stock Model A coupe was the first hot rod to grace my brother’s eye after I pointed it out to him one day in our own neighborhood, as teens. Since then, it has stuck out in my mind as a permanent... “what if…project.”

It has been a “standard” to use the drawing as a base for a lot of my other Model A artwork.

The old coupe got towed home, reworked by a couple of teenagers with some new parts. Then coughing, the motor started as we were surprised + happy. Soon, we were off, backing up in a narrow backyard path to the concrete driveway and out to the neighborhood street.

This may sound like a million other "beginning" stories, but, it gave us a start in our adventures, with a twist here and there, along the long... route to our memories at any time. But, as written before somewhere along the years, the Model A was the "one that got away." YRMV
