Okay, this is a crazy idea and a longshot of a suggestion, but what the hey. I want to see if there's anyone in the general San Jose, CA area who owns a '49 or '50 Shoebox who would let me come check it out, shoot a bunch of detailed pix of it, and maybe let me sit behind the wheel (tho not drive, necessarily). It's gonna be years before I own my own, but I want to start understanding the detail of them now so I'm ready to go when I do get one. And, if nothing else, a nice behind-the-wheel shot makes a neat avatar. Let me know here or PM me, please. -Taylor
how bout you drive up to sacramento, jump in my 51 put some cash in my hand and have your buddies push you back to sunnyvale? speedy
How young are you?? I got my first 1950 Ford when I was 14. I got another free the same year. They sell for $100 or so around here. Why cant you earn enough money?? Last year I got 3 for $200.
I'll be 28 in September. If I found one that was mostly together for even $500 I'd find a way to go for it! -Taylor
shoulda got with me a couple months agowhen I had mine in the classifieds, had one already chopped, nosed, decked, and shaved for a measly grand. Had an ECI disc brake kit on it too. no drivetrain, but what the hell do you expect for a grand...... It got sold local for REAL cheap and the guy never picked it up from where it was being stored at so it got hauled off to who knows where....if I could find out I'd buy it back.
Doesn't look like I'll be able to make it...and if I do, it'll be really early. Like, before 4.30pm. I swear I've seen guys on here from the Bay Area with Shoeboxes...where are they now? -Taylor

LOL! Yeah, apparently. I'm not scary, I promise. I'm just a guy with the glimmer of a shoebox in his eye. -Taylor (yes, an english teacher, too)
You're welcome to come sit in mine, but you gotta come to LA to do it. It's a fake '50, but it's pretty hard to tell. Used to be a Bay Area car, too, but I moved south in '99.
[ QUOTE ] Nice. Was that from last week? About what time did you see him roll in? -Taylor [/ QUOTE ] That was taken the 1st week, but its been there several times since, not been for a couple of weeks (working too late) but will be there tomorrow
Post Hijack! 50Fraud~ Your car inspires me! I love it and I have that article in Rod and Custom cut out on the shop wall! What color green is that? I am think about painting mine the dark green that is on the new Ford Rangers. (Deep Forest Green Metallic, i think is the name) Mike BTW: Cheap shoboxes are out there, but I would suggest spending a little more and getting a "decent" car to start with. I paid $2k for a complete 56,000 mile survivor from Misouri, that has been barn stored since 1967. There is just some light rust from the dampness of the Barn and the interior/wiring was thrashed by mice.
I would make a point to sit in 50Fraud's Ford.. that car is awesome! I love it dude. Shoeboxer - man I've never seen anyone wanting a car so bad in my life.. Why don't you dump that V-DUB bus of yours and pick up a 'box? Dub busses are cool, but there's always more out there. If you REALLY want it, there's always a way.. I would keep checking your local paper, the HAMB, etc.. someone's gotta have one on the cheap for you. They're not rare by any stretch unless they're Vicky's (hard top w/special trim) anyway.. good luck brotha.. E
Heheh, wow, did not expect to wake up this morning and see the thread so high on the board. Fraud's got a real nice box, there...no doubt about that! Honestly, I don't even need a nice one to go poking around. I'm obsessed, really. I accept it. I've always got my proverbial ear to the ground on a screamin' deal, but it'd have to be pretty damn local for right now...just don't have the dough for long trips (else I'd be headed into Kansas or somewhere right now). And with the new condo and all that other stuff going on right now, just not a good time to be selling a car that I really do love. I'll become patient (with time...maybe!) and get one someday. I just really want to see one up close now. -Taylor
