Hot Rods A Boat-Tail Speedster and a Mustang fender… “say what?!!?”

I’m on a very low budget so I’m using everything that’s in my barn. I have a 1963 Rambler strait six and manual trans with low miles. That’s why I was going with that long hood. Should move pretty good having not much weight.

 

Yes! Tex Smith was rather good at this type of build, but I also remember a projecct using a mini truck pickup box as the main piece (body). This was done by Brian Brennan, if I remember correctly. I know this would complicate the build, but what if you channel the body(?) the width of the frame? Just a thought, Enjoy!!

Sweet! I can get into a build like this. So much better and more fun than hohum homogenized builds that are the norm here!

 

Eating breakfast and drawing on my phone this morning… not a 100% sure but I’m thinking lower the suspension about 3 inches and adding sheet metal to give it a channeled look is the way to make her look more aggressive. Also not sure on how sharp or round I want to go with the boat tail, but probably will decide once I start it. Plans usually get thrown out the window by me anyway. Haha Also, no clue on color… just drawing with blue because of the hoods I picked up. Btw… the Mustang fenders will be unrecognizable by time I’m done for you Mustang Haters out there. Hahaha

Looks better with the rails exposed, clever vision for sure but do what suits your taste.

 

The really cool thing, I think, is how the random parts you grabbed fit so well together. firewall/dash/fenders.

this was built from a junky CJ5 tub. The hood is the back of the cab

 

Why not slice and dice a couple 40's something hoods for the rear? Upper and lower, with lower doubling as rear belly pan...

 

Love it! I would suggest adding a little curve to the top of the boat tail if possible.

Looking good! You have extraordinary vision to dream that up from a pair of Mustang fenders. Now that it's a Cadillac, it needs a V16. I know a guy who could probably fix you up with one.

 

I like how the rad/grill shell looks canted forward in this photo. It reminds me of the early photos of the Brooklands style wood track racers. It looks fast just sitting there. An inspiring thread.

Cool! Great idea to go back to having fun with a build and keeping it as inexpensive as possible. Looks great!

 

I know you're using what you have, but a hood with more of a beak on it like a 39-40 Ford or Plymouth might make the back end fabrication easier.

 

I thought to myself that this has a straight 6 written all over it. I remember your Rambler wagon thread. It was good reading and the family got a great vintage vacation out of it.

This is gonna be cool! Not sure I would have been inspired by a couple of upside down Mustang fenders, but seems you are sure bringing it all together well.

 

Your initial mock up lines look really similar to this A speedster. Cool.

I dig this project you are building, its so cool to think outside of the traditional box.
Not trying to high jack this thread , but this is purely a suggestion and nothing more than that.
When you use for example, two hoods from the KB series, of International pick up trucks, you can make a pretty cool boat tail.





Your results may vary!
Keep at it, this is going to be a very cool ride indeed!

Man, it takes a great imagination to look at an upside down fender and see a boat tail speedster!
