I am pretty dissappointed with your posts here, and your reference to Canadian Rodder. You will notice many commented about separating the car on this forum and they did NOT get flamed by a newbie.
Plus had our cop friend made the same post here......he would be long gone!!!!

    I am quite fed up

    Keith,
I didnt make mention of the forum name but rather the ignorance that prevailed. As the thread continued it sunk deeper into pissy fits and name calling until I emailed the owner of the forum asking him to close it, as did you.

You are one of the many I hold in high regard and you did a good job of making your point without pointing an accusing finger. But when it comes to flaming, tourches were burning in all camps.

Any of my Fellow Canadians want to hand over $80,000 for the old girl as she stands? I'd be happy to hand the frame back to the last owner so someone can buy it and stand vigil over history, the history that only a few Canadians seem to feel any p***ion about.

    As I said previousely:
"We talk about the historical value of something. But when I posed the question to the forum of BC and Canadian rodders, less than a handfull, no less than 5 people responded with any knowledge of the names represented by the car.

We dont seem to give a rats *** about our own history, we'd rather wax poetic and sentimenal about it and live on California dreams and Wally Parks. And when it comes to trying to sell a "historical vehicle" in BC... no ones got any money. They all want to trade their rust piles or overpriced plastic." May i add, "or low ball and ***** about something they couldnt afford or were jealouse of in the first place".

Yet everyone is a critic and have to fan the fires to whip everyone else into a frenzy like a bunch of old hags sitting around a coffee table talking about the new woman in town.

I know what you mean, I'm also quite fed up. Do we carry on with more finger pointing, backlashing and flame fanning or can it just be put to rest.

    Have a good Canadian Thanksgiving.

So how long before we see 'don't want to sell it but ' like the last few you've had?
Seems to me you get great deals off people who care and then sell them on
And i have problems with your ideals that every rod enthusiast in B.C and even Canada should know the history of every rod built.

hey your right, I have bought a couple cars and sold them on.
For example a 38 Ford I bought with the intent of building. I paid $2500 and $750 to have it shipped here. When a good old Rodder asked to buy it because he wanted a winter project, i sold it to him for $2000 because thats what he could afford. Yep, thats how you keep the doors open.

I dont think every rodder needs to know history but I dont think they need to piss on people when "an old Hotrod' is parted out for 2 new rods.

I plan on building this so its traditional but not to replicate what it was. I plan on keeping this one and I have no plans on selling.

Oh well, this is Canada and we're getting ready for another cold long winter... time to get on the internet and get into ******* matches to keep warm.

I couldn't be bothered responding to any more of this, carry on without me.

I think that one of the biggest problems anyone who buys a notable old rod or custom runs into is that there is a large segment of the population that thinks it's a crime against nature to make any changes or upgrades in it.
I'm all for preserving history but even though you have paid hard earned cash for so an so's old car even though there may have been three or five owners since it's still so an so's old car.
Lono, I'm glad to see that you got the ch***is you could only dream about and are going to keep it pretty much as built. The new car it becomes will no doubt become part of BC rodding history and carry the torch. At the same time I can relate to the gent who sold you the ch***is and is putting the body on the new ch***is so that he can drive "His" Deuce roadster to the far flung gatherings he enjoys.
Now I want to see the progress reports on your A on Deuce rails and see some photos of the finished rod and maybe get to see it in person some day.

I have to ask though, other than being in the area since it was built and not being changed significantly since it was built by the progression of owners. Was there anything significant about the car? Major show winner, significant trend setter (no matter when) , winner of a major racing event?

I think it's a shame. It's not like the frame was destroyed in a crash and needed replacing.
I suppose a person can do whatever they want with their own car. Just like if owned the Mona Lisa i could repaint it, make her blonde and showing cleavage and why should anybody mind if i'm improving it, eh?

I dont know of any awards or ground breaking history to the car but some of the people who have owned it are well known to our Elder Statesmen of Rodding.

The dropped axle was made by Blackie Green. His shop was at the south end of Vancouver and the business is now run by his kids. I'm told "the business is still active doing wheels and stuff in Richmond B.C.".

Norm Abrahamson was the builder. Here's what one Lead sled owner shared with me:
"I thought Norm Abrams built that car, but I could be wrong.....Norm was pretty famous for chopping cars, I would bet he chopped 50 or more cars....no exaggeration. He was the go-to guy for a chop, and just did one car after another for probably 30 years. If you ever saw a chopped Merc, shoebox, or 41 to 48 Ford coupe, you could be sure it was a Norm car.He also chopped scores of Model A's, and even the odd 40's- 50's Chevy.Anyway, he always sold his cars except that one."

These pictures would have been taken around 1984:

Mark Zomar was the next owner who was once able to find a registration for any BC vehicle. Boy, those were the "good old days".

Here's how it appeared when Mark owned it.

The look of the car under the hands on the new owner ( who's had it for about 2 years that I know of) will improve. The body will be redone and a fully rebuilt and ballanced late model flatty will go into the new frame. I've seen the wheels he's got planned for it too, we'll say very traditional, very beautiful and very desireable.

On my end of things, I'm moving away from the 15 in that were on the car to 16' 46 ford steel. They came from my 46 Sedan I had traded the owner in an earlier deal. Radial Whites will shoe it.

The 31 Roadster body I'm using has a history of its own. It came from Saskatchawan to Kelowna B.C. where it was pulled apart and extensive metal work has been done. With new rails and patch panels in place, the owner traded it for a vickie on the road to getting a early A truck he wants. I bought it from a friend that got it from him.

The end result will be something similar to the attached picture here but with full stock style hood (with stock wishbones) and original 32 grill shell.

I have not resolved what the colour will be but the process with be base clear that I will shoot myself. It wont be red or black.

Work will begin next month when my new shop has completed and focus will be on this and my 39 Plymouth taildragger thats been sitting idle too long.

Lono, Congrats on your new project. Sounds like you are the one to fully utilize the parts from a car with some history. Looking forward to seeing those parts used in it's new/old life. Congrats on this new build.

The parts gathering begins. I've got about 1 more month before my shop is complete and I can get back in and get to work. In that time, I've got my head down picking out some needed parts. The more I have ready and available the more focused I'll be.

I've ordered up my diamond backs too.
175/60R16 for the front; height 24.3 with 1.5 WWW
215/75R15 for the rear; height 27.7 with 3.0 WWW - the rears match up with the old 600 series real nice.

Now off questing for some 46 caps and rings.

I'm not committed to colour yet but after a little photochop work I have a clear vision of the final look...

Added a different style guage cluster. Will be mounting it in a 32 style dash ( unless I get funky and make a rolled dash for it).

I've been looking for roof iron and i dont see myself spitting $100's for a custom and didnt want to make a carson top.

Paucho gave me a wake up call to using an Astin Healy roof and with a little modification, its going to be just fine.

Paucho also donated a very nice 41 dash to teh cause to go along with that cool cluster.

What a "pay it forward kinda guy!" thanks again Paucho!.

Lono, good for you and your friend. Sounds like the two of you both got what you wanted. Every car has a history, if that history was to remain untouched then there would never be a modified vehicle. Their only a virgin once.
When someone posts about buying a really nice 1940 ford truck and removes the front sheetmetal, paints it flat black and welds spiderwebs arcrosss the radiator, some people here applaud..Now that is a loss.

Way to go Paucho on donating that dash- I was going to say that that gauge cluster would fit a '41 dash nicely but you guys know...

Way to put a good frame to good use. Its better to be used than just sitting around all lonely like with no body on it. You're right Lono, it's the previous owner's decision to split the car up and you were lucky enough to take advantage of the deal. Good luck with your build and keep us posted on the progress.

I've hit a snag in the shop build... 4 weeks out for the bay doors and winters blowing soon. Cant wait to drag my projects through snow drifts to the new shop.

Would be nice if he had a "deuce" frame but I guess you can start with a duece frame.
