I had noticed this Suburban in another thread in a pic you posted, and hoped you would share at some point. Thanks for doing so, and great job!

Thanks for the kind words guys!

In the meantime I managed to make runningboard brackets, which was more of a task than I thought it would be. 3 of the originals were missing and the other 3 of the originals were cut , sliced and diced beyond repair, so I decided to make my own brackets...
I must have screwed up the rearmost bracket on the driver´s side somehow. It´s almost an inch too high now, but I swear it was perfect before I finish welded it, hahaha
But that is an easy fix...cut , bend , weld,... funny thing is, the first time I noticed this was when I was looking at these photos,oh well.

Looking good! And I appreciate your can-do attitude. Building something for the cost of materials is much better than ordering an off the shelf piece!

Just another little update.... I borrowed my now wife´s ´burban to go to the Hindenberg Speedway Races last weekend. We had a blast. The truck did great on the 650 mile roundtrip, dani couldn´t come with me because we couldn´t get a baby sitter for our little guy, so my friend Floop-e jumped in and was my drinking and having fun buddy for the weekend... on the drive home I noticed something was missing in the passenger seat...

There was some real racing action going on too! Luckily no one was seriously hurt, Stöffel´s 34 suffered a bent frame and a kinked wishbone and the red 40? sedan broke the front axle as far as I now.

  6. your visor needs to be about 3" lower in front, ....otherwise, perfect build/truck.

Rusty, thank you for the kind words! Concerning the visor, you are right, but it‘s also handy to see the stop lights. Over here they dont put them across the intersection, where they would be good to see, but right on the corner of your side. I’m already doing yoga tricks when I‘m the first in line, if the visor sat any lower I‘ m perfectly sure I‘d break my backbone, hahahaha

I like your thinking... But we´d have to louver it in the wrong direction to make it see -thru:D

Here´s somewhat of a final update on our Suburban, called "Urban".My wife decided she needed something bigger for her roadtrips than the suburban, so she asked me to put it up for sale for her. To our surprise our friend TC from Hamburg bought it on the spot and came over a week later to pick it up. He took a detour to the Alps and then went cross country all the way from the south back home to Hamburg. Today he had it registered in his name and we hope we will meet him at the Hindenberg dirt track races in two weeks, with Urban. I have to admit our eyes leaked a bit when TC drove off.... now we need something for two adults and a kid to sit and sleep in. The Suburban was great to sleep in so far, but with our little guy now we kind of ran out of space. I´m hoping I can find maybe a panel truck that is a 3600 or 3800, for a little more room.

Mitch, I can not exactly answer your question. But it sure looks like it. TheSuburban is already sitting at it‘s new home and I don‘t know the cars in it‘s neighborhood

  19. Ok, thanks for the reply, I thought they might be yours. Have fun with your search for a replacement. Mitch

Unfortunately they ain´t. But yes, it was hard for Dani to let it go, it was hard for me too, but I´ve been fixing and selling vehicles since I was 14 or so, so I kind of got used to it. On the bright side, we made something out of not so much, enjoyed and used it almost daily, drove it for about 30k miles and someone else has new plans and is taking care of it. I call that a win, win, win.
What Dani fought over severly with herself was, can she let something go that I built for her. I told her, yes you can, the value is not gone, you can just put it elsewhere.
Now she´s looking for something bigger, like an earlier G20 or similar.

  21. It's gone but not forgotten, time to find something else and make new memories.

I vote Divco or International Harvester Metro... or something like that. Might be time for a vacation over here and send something new home with you.
