Hey guys, looking to see what you guys have used in your rides as far as A/C setups. Im looking for a small unit that will do the trick. Weather is a Vintage Air unite or a unite out of a newer car. Im on a budget so looking at all options here. Im thinking about the Gen II compact from vintage air but looking for more input. Thanks in advance.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

I,m looking for the same thing but with only heat and defrost. I know there are after market heaters but is there a small heater from another car that will fit in a 47/48 Chevy?

I bought just the underdash unit and a dryer from nostalgic air. I had a Sanden compressor already. I found a condenser somewhere and had the hoses made up by a friend at a local bearing and hose business...I had to build a compressor bracket, because no one makes one for a Sanden on a slant six...saved quite a bit of money. sum-bitch throws ice cubes.

Anyone have luck pulling any out of a parts car at a junk yard. I have many "parts cars" (different years and makes) at my disposal. Is it worth my time or should i just buy new?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Maybe this is my best option.

I'm a big fan of the Vintage Air stuff. If you do a search you'll see so do a whole lot of others. And there are some to stay away from as well

I've got a Southern Rods one in my 46. BUt it was built into the car right from scratch...no dash permanently in it, so I could work. But it will fit and work well.
I adapted an OEM AC set-up (or most parts, at least) for my 55 Olds, way back when they didn't have kits. I built a new box for it, as well as a distribution box, for the vents, in place of the fresh air box the car had originally. It was truly a LOT of work just to physically package it nicely, and integrating the controls to work it was a little bit of a challenge. Do-able, but unless I wanted something entirely custom, I wouldn't do it again!

You might save a few dollars with another company but you can't get better hardware or support help than Vintage Air. One phone call and they will get you everything you need and it will work first time and every time.

I used Southern Rods, and if I ever buy another car I will use them again. Vintage air wanted $1500 + for the same setup I got for $800 shipped, and Southern Air was very helpfull and fast on their tech support during my installation. I reccomend Sounthern Air, I bought their super frost system.
