have a '65 T-Bird with original A/C system. blows cool air but, not cold air. guessing that a recharge boost will make the difference since not serviced for a long time. there are aftermarket substitute R 12 compatible products available for doing recharge at home. anyone used any of these with good results? do not want to switch to R134a.
You probably only need one can or less, buy the real R12. I see it at swap meets and on marketplace for $20 to 30 per can.
I would make sure there are no leaks before adding any freon. An AC shop will have a "sniffer" that makes a noise when it detects a leak when held near any connections in the system. My dad used to service AC systems, and a lot of times when the system did not blow cold air it was because of a leak. As I recall he used a halogen "sniffer" to detect leaks. Worked really well. R-12 is not hard to find. If you have trouble finding any, send me a PM.
Look up EnviroSafe..supposed to be compatible with R12, it's cheap and available online. There are other websites where people have used it and are happy with it...
Damn my Friend , I wish I was near to you , I have a 30lb cylinder and nothing to use it in . I would fill it for you . But it does need to be leak checked 1st thing .
