hotroddon, he was hitting the wine hard, which is why I never gave the story a second thought. That is until I saw this thread & too many things sounded similar. Could very well be an urban legend like the jet engine strapped to the Impala. However, people claim to have read about the backwards 59 Impala. I provided my two bits for entertainment value only. I still laugh about the Pig & Bear story.

I've been casting around for the last name of the perpetrator of the backwards '59. Does GARNER ring any bells with anyone? Phil Garner?

I remember the article. The car had to be destroyed because it was scaring the s**t out of other drivers on the highway.

Not to keep this thread alive, but it is gratifying to see even old wino professors can tell stories that have a speck of truth to them.

I seen this sucker in person a few years back here in Dallas. That has got to be the most creative use of a Pacer I ever seen. That took guts to build. I wonder if its still around.

That Pacer Auto Hauler was owned by a little muffler shop in Stillwater, OK for a while. He might still own it for all I know. Not either of the good reputable muffler shops mind you. This guy was/is trying to run a muffler shop and used car dealership together. The kind of guy that buys a stock 1987 Camero for $500 and tries to resell it for $8000, and itll sit next to another mid 80s car on the lot on blocks with now wheels, and a old Mitshbuishi minivan on the other side.

They do horrible work too. About 6 years ago, my father-in-law took a 4 year old (at that time) Oldsmible 4 door sedan for a new muffler, thinking this guy was a normal muffler shop. He pulled up one day and I noticed the exaust tilepipes were just swinging back and forth. They hung it with chain link (small stuff like on a kids swing set) and bolt together muffler clamps. I took it back to them and made them do it right. The shop owner looked at me like I was the crazy one thinking exahust tubing should be welded together and hung with actual exhaust hangers!
