The engine was built about 9 years ago and I am the third owner. It has been stored since basically. Only driven maybe 200 miles. It's my bag.

Is it back together? I had a similar disaster on my ARDUN. Turned out to be lubrication related when the full flow oil filter line was fractured when the engine moved against it. I lost all except the heads and a few lifters. A 5k experience. I am back together and running quite well. Hope you experience the same. Rebuilt with Merc Crank, **** Rods, Ross Pistons and Schneider Cam. Made new lifters out of Buick Lifters using the ARDUN caps. My heads are original 1st gen heads with rare sequential numbers 168 and 169. I am happy!

  3. I have a friend, that is conscientious, who built several engines that all failed, each for a different reason. The builder could have made several simple mistakes that could have caused a disaster like this. Just because he used expensive, good quality parts, doesn't mean he knew what he was doing.

The engine is not back together yet. My old block was toast. A few weeks ago I changed from a original flathead block to a Ferguson aluminum block. I have the aluminum block now. I should have more info. in a couple of weeks. It should be killer when done. My builder said he took all the other rod bolts off with a speed wrench. Just his word though. Jim

I saw this thread back when you first posted it . Rod/rod cap/cap screw let go first, that took out the other rod and camshaft. At least that's my guess. Same thing happened to my BBC AFTER I sold the engine/transmission to a guy to partner up with. His very first p*** in my 56 Chevrolet Model 150 Utility Sedan Pro Bracket car he grenaded the engine. He said all he heard was a "POP". I did't see him make the p***; I was out in the pits when it happened. Funny thing was (and I mean FUNNY-I could hardly contain my laughter), the series 60 B & M shifter was bent over about 45 degrees away from the driver's position. I think the car scared him, he over revved it before slamming the Powerglide into high, thereby bending the shifter. Same kind of carnage; only the heads (had to be rebuilt-bent 2 valves and split the guides), sheet metal pieces, intake/carb, distributor were salvageable. The short block was a big paperweight. I wish you luck in starting 2018 out right with a killer flatty. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Sound hot! Aluminum block shows dedication and I look forward to the end result. Is Ferguson going to build it for you? What do you think the final cost will be? Wish you the best. By the way, I am in Reno, where are you?

aug 17 2015_20180430_124359Georgetown hill .JPG Update on my catastrophic failure. Went for the whole enchilada. Built a motor with an Ardun aluminum block. Tomorrow is installation day. It has been run already.

That's as pretty as the day is long.

If it was run in on a dyno I'm curious as to the numbers. Who did the ***embly work this time and are there any pictures or details from the build? Have fun.

Please post the dyno numbers, always wanted to know what a built Ardun flathead would put out.

Plain and simple, the person that put it together screwed it up, got to use a stretch gage on those rod bolts.
This was doomed from the moment the pan was bolted on!
    Sorry
