That is the important question here.

Back when I was daily driving my 1953 Ford Victoria I occasionally had to borrow my dad’s Toyota minivan. During those exchanges he always had an enjoyable time tooling around doing his daily errands. He was often engaged in conversations where they were intrigued by his heavy German accent and driving a rumbling flathead v8 mild custom.

Rode a couple thousand miles in a muscle car last year and was amazed at the reactions in southern states. CA folks are a bit more stand offish. Southerners, Texans especially, were over the top. Asked to sit in it, get a pic of it, get a pic sitting in it, compliments at every stop. My neighbor's teenage daughter was too shy to ask for a ride in my muscle car but her dad mentioned it. Gave me an excuse to drive it. Asked her if she'd be scared if I did a donut in it. She was all for it. Went to my office parking lot and did an easy little loop for her enjoyment. She was giddy. Even videotaped it for posterity. Didn't say much but was very thankful.

I would call him and recommend he stock up on old timey key cutting equipment and key blanks. He could be the newest alliance vendor and get his foot planted in the door of hot rods

At a recent family outing, I was talking to my niece's husband and he told me how well he remembered riding in my chopped Plymouth over thirty years ago when they started dating. He owns a big block '68 Camaro convertible so something must have worked.

What a great story. This is why I like my hot rod and bike families. I have witnessed this more with these two groups than any other groups I've been associated with. I remember vividly several years ago, when my boy was about 6. We were looking at an early 60's vette. The owner asked my son if he would like to get in. He got in the drivers seat. the owner fired up that well massaged 327 and revved it a few times. My son, who is now in his thirties, still talks about that day.

    THREAD UPDATE.
This young man (young compared next to me ), called Friday afternoon from California saying that he has now moved there to start his shutter business. Saying that he had to do it because he had an investor, and it is now or never. He also promised to keep in touch as he still wants that ride, and he has family here and will be back. IMO he is a great guy and will be successful will surely do good, and I wished him the best of luck and told him that ride is waiting any time he stops in.

Yes, and I gave him a 30-dollar tip as he works for wages. (Explanation: The previous tech who used the shop van left the needed tool to open my special lock in a bench locked drawer, back at shop so he went through the garage/shop window and tore his coveralls.

Great story Larry! It’s interesting how a problem turned into a blessing and the potential to encourage someone else to join our hobby. Love to hear these kinds of stories.

  13. Sharing our love of hot rods & customs with others is as natural as breathing, every time I offer to let a kid sit in on of my cars or take someone for a ride their reactions put a big grin on my face and it just might infinite a flame and insure another hot rodder for the future. HRP
