My wife of 54 years has been on many adventures with me. Even one where I blew up two cars in one day.

  4. When I met my wife, I was driving an O/T diesel Suburban. I traded that turd for a new S-10, she wrecks her Escort, then I let her drive my S-10. This caused me to have to drive my
E-250. I then asked her if her Mom ever taught her not to date guys who drove vans? She’s been stuck with me for 24-1/2 years now. I was also riding an Ironhead Sportster with a 4”x6” P-pad on it for her. She rode that bike everywhere with me. Now she won’t ride on anything less than a Harley ElectraGlide.

When I first started dating my wife, she absolutely hated me picking her up in my '48 Ford pickup. Didn't take long to realize I might get a little "luckier" if I picked her up in my Ranchero;)

My wife had never been in to cars or even driving when we got married I taughter how to drive in a 59 ElCamino with a 235 and three speed. about four years later when I had my T bucket running and licensed and driving she would sneak it out and drive it to town once in a while usually when my sister inlaw and her cousin talked her into it, 13/14 years old at the time.
Then after we moved up here (back up here for me) I got my 51 Merc running and driving and she ended up using it as her daily driver for a year or more.

Hot rods are for getting girls, customs are for keeping them.

I heard it this way, Customs are for getting the girls and hot rods are for getting away from them

I told my wife I would like to recreate this picture with my roadster. She said I just want her in white go go boots. Smart girl.

Just started dating a new girl. Took her to a car show about a half hour away in the Roadster with the top off , when we got back she said riding in the car was the most relaxing thing ever. She even likes my junk daily driver 64 Elko. She's a keeper

Wife number one sorta tolerated my affection for old cars, she was more of a luxury car person:( Wife number two seemed to like the 38 Chevy that we dated in...until we got married and then she lost interest. Wife number three doesn't really care much for the 38 or the 53 Stude (they don't have A/C) but after the Stude was done she asked me if I was going to do another car...well...I had seen a project T Roadster for sale. A few days later after a six hour round trip it was in the garage. She likes the big fat tires on the back:) She also knows that it keeps me sane if I have something to do. Yep...third time was a charm:) IMG_4474 - Copy.JPEG

I was on a date years ago with a gal that was rather full of herself. When I showed her my roadster that I just had finished, her eyes lit up and she asked 'What's it worth"... I replied "it's not worth anything since I'll never sell it". I never asked her out again.

Darn right she’s a keeper! Any woman that will ride all that way with her top off after only a few dates, well that’s a woman you don’t want to loose!

    Hello,

During high school, normal sedans were the hand me downs for instant transportation. But when looking for a specific cool hot rod, then some rules come into play. My brother had a cool looking 1951 Pale Yellow Oldsmobile two door sedan. The car was considered a family car as other models looked similar. But, when he got the flipper hubcaps and lowered it, it was questionable to various parents for their daughters to ride around in it.

When my time came to start driving, it was still the same for most parents. Even though the girls’ parents knew me, knew our parents and where we lived, the car arriving in the driveway was always questionable. Most of my friends had sedans with custom stuff, but it was minimal and not some outrageous custom, lowered car with wild paint.

I bought the Flathead powered 40 Ford Sedan Delivery and when I rolled up to the driveway, the dad was not pleased with the sedan delivery. Despite my school reputation, the community, and families that could vouch for me, the stare was not the best. So, we just stood around in the garage and did not drive away in the sedan delivery.

As was proven later, a station wagon is good for sleeping, but privacy is a little “open.” Even with side curtains, the local CHP came at us parked on a surface street near our favorite place, Trestles, near the Marine Base. Our friends in the station wagon had to move to the state park area. The CHP knocked on our door/window, but since they could not see inside, they gave up and rolled away.

We were free and clear and minutes later, we were the first on the beach to get some uncrowded waves… While our friends had to walk an extra mile or two down the beach sand, to get to where we were surfing.
But, a sedan delivery is closed in all over if a set of curtains covers the area behind the seats and the rear window. Good for privacy and not so good for overall blind spot driving.

A week later, I arrived in a 58 Impala and the dad now gave us thumbs up and said have fun… ha! Society and their staid outlook on, then, current teenage lives. I am/was the same nice guy, same school and it was just a week later. He must have been impressed that I could read his mind… and changed cars for the next encounter. We still cruised the coastal highway all along the darken beach roads, too. YRMV
