Cross bolted FE? I thought you meant the 400 SBC block, those are hard to find too. :D

  5. The block was dropped off to get fixed

But I guess you can spend the cash if this is accurate

The owner of the block has since p***ed. The machine shop is trying to contact the family.
It’d make a nice coffee table

  10. Walked in the shop carrying a 134 Willys crank.
Didn’t even have to tell em what it was. Nice to know shops like that are still out there.

I have one like that, worth fixing. Mine is also a hydraulic- capable block, so I could use my T&D rockers in it

  14. Used to be.
After the Allisons, and it all going “corporate” the Birmingham/NASCAR thing is a memory.

on a side note. I can’t confirm this, but I’ve been told the Allison shop had an airplane prop for a dyno. They knew what HP by how many RPMs the prop would turn.
    Who knows.

  15. Don’t know.
All the shop has is the block.

Looks like an old block I used to have. Welded up in the same place. If its in Alabama it might be the same one. I got out of the 427 game back when they were affordable. Sure wish I knew how expensive those things would get.

  17. Pan rails on both sides have welds.

They are still out there in Ontario, as well as other provinces . My Dad’s buddies got the s**** rights to a Canadian Navy boat back in 2019 . When they went exploring in the engine room, it had two Ford 427’s. Promptly went back to the shop. My cousin who recently sold his wrecking yard, back in the summer of 2020 got a call from a farmer in Ontario that wanted a few pieces of old farm equipment gone. Cousin went over with the rollback loaded a couple of pieces. Asked the gentleman what else he had . Two Chevrolet 409’s . Jim’s son in law rebuilt one for his’55 Chevy and Jim sold the other one to another car but.

I figure it's the snowbirds. Winter comes, snowbird takes his toys to the sunny South, dies and the toys stay in the South. Only logical reason I could come up with. ;)
