Thought I'd share some pix of a couple of air compressors I've acquired over the years: The first one is an electric powered one that uses a constant run type pump.Pressure is supplied to the gun all the time and excess air is bled off through the gun.The way it functions is when you pull the trigger it caps off the bleed hole and directs air across the top of the color cup(a siphon effect).I bought it with the idea of using it for airbrushing as it is very compact but the brushes I have shut the air off and I kept blowing the feed line off the compressor.I got the original gun to work but the pattern isn't all that great.More of a curio now. The second one is probably the wildest thing I've ever seen:It was made by Dupli-Color in 1950 and consists of a small siphon gun,a diaphragm type compressor that(I'm not making this up)you use by removing a spark plug from your engine and screwing it into the hole. There are adaptors for 10mm and 18mm plug holes(14mm is standard). You then hook up the hose to the gun, start your engine and spray away!Imagine trying that on a new car today! Anyway I just thought I'd share the pix.I've seen some pretty ridiculous accessories before but that one tops it! Ray
Oh I almost forgot:If you don't want to take your life in your hands running the engine there is an adaptor included that allows you to run it off the spare tire air.
hey man cool i have the the gun in the second pic ....where did ya get yours.....i got mine off of ebay... CHEAP !!!!!! it was listed in the wrong category......mine is in the same condition as well .....right on man i love its sooo cool .......
When I was a kid dad had a air hose that worked the same way. Pull a spark plug, air up the tire. Handy as hell when your out in a field and have a tire going down.
I've got one from "Spray-It"(I think, it's in the shed) just the compressor and it's like your first pic. But the jug fins make it look like an indian war bonnet! I've wanted a gun that would work with it...

[/ QUOTE ] I bought mine at a flea market a long time ago.Guy was asking 10 bucks for it;I got it for 6.Don't have the heart to try it out.The other one I bought several years ago at a flea market also.It was painted a horroble brown color so I stripped it and was going to paint it hammertone but couldn't find any at the time.Wound up painting it Ford engine blue I think. It works great now that I put a new gasket on it. Think about it, on a carbed engine there is fuel in the air that your painting with. So you will quite possibley get a spark from the disconected plug wire. Fffwoooomph! A ball of flame with color speckles of your choice on the wall. no wonder Americans became litigation crazy. The manufacturer was acertainly****uming some level of knowlege from anyone interested in such a device, but man, what liability. The idea is so dangerous I like it.

[/ QUOTE ] Actually the way it works is the compressor screws into the spark plug hole and uses the pressure pulse from the cylinder to operate the gun.The unburned gases are funneled out the exhaust valve and never enter the engine compartment. It's still pretty scary though having a loose spark plug firing under the hood.
Ray: damn, now that you posted them and they look so kool, i'm just gonna have to find me one for a wall hanger if nothing else. now , what has to come off the wall to make room for it?.
