What were the floors made of in these old trucks ... I'm finding a lot of wood pieces that appear to have been floorboards. Did these trucks have headliners in them? What about sun visors? Are headlight trim rings interchangeable with car rings? I have good buckets but the rings are junk. I have a headlight stachion with a broken stud. Is there a solution to repair this?
i'll try to answer a few of your questions but we need pictures. on wetskier's thread you asked about the stainless trim on the grill- is your truck a oval grill? if so it's a 38-40. as far as floor, yes there is wood pieces in between a metal frame structure. yes they had headliners(cardboard) no visors but they do have the holes marked. the headlight rings are the same as the 36 ford cars. the stantion bolts are like a carriage bolt head and can be punched out and replaced. hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply. I just got this thing and as I go through the parts I have more questions. Mine's definately a '41 (not the "pig nose" grill). '41's were the only year the grills had chrome trim. I have the trim but its ROUGH !! The headliner must have been those unpteen pieces of foul-smelling **** I tossed (couldn't have even taken a pattern off it). This thing is pretty complete so I was wondering if the visors were missing. I'll look for the headlight rings - I imagine they're reproduced. I saw whay you mean about the stantion bolts but the stantions are pressed together and don't look like they easily come apart. The top is diecast and the bottom stamped steel. I sure as hell don't want to ****** one of these up !!
I bought new headlight rings from a bob drake dealer. i'll check and see if i have an extra stantion, they are the same as the smaller trucks(40-41 1 tons) the 38-39 ones don't have the park lights in them.
played with the extra stantion last night. first, both pieces are tin but you need not take them apart. i removed the park-light ring and proceded to drop the lens(it broke) then i removed the bulb bucket. you can see the top of this carridge bolt and one good smack with a hammer and out it came. the other end was a little harder as the space is limited. i broke this one loose but it was to long to get out so i cut it off. to replace it i used a screwdriver the same size as the hole and made the hole angled so i could get a bolt into the hole, i then tightened up a nut to the square shank and then clamped some vise grips to the nut and pulled the hole into shape again. i had a good selection of small carridge bolts that were tight after being pulled into the holes but you could put a small spot-weld to hold if not tight enough. there's lots of room around the bolts to allow for adjustment of the stantion. hope this helps, took me 20 minutes to change both studs. a good warm up for all the hurdles a person faces when playing with old trucks.
"See This is what this group is all about. Helping each other" Yup ... just like the Moparts site! So Pex, thanks for taking the time to look at that and I'm sorry about the lens busting. Its a ***** when you're trying to help someone out and you end up ******ing up your own stuff.
