the color on that shoebox is what Im looking for, its exactly what one should look like (in my simple opinion)

  2. It was pretty close to a late T-bird color that I'm looking at myself.....Merlot

  3. That 41 is damn nice BUT.........
It suffers the same problem most chopped cars do, lack of rain gutters. Without them they just look wrong, kinda like a short haired dog with no ears!!

    Doc.

  4. I agree 90% of the time but there are a few that can pull it off, and this 41 is one of them.
My 48 3 window in my avatar I cut 7 pieces of roof on each side to retain the drip rails over the door. I live in Oregon and don't likw water dripping down my neck.

  5. full customs dont have rain gutters...;).....mildly chopped cars made to look like they could have come that way from the factory need rain gutters..

  6. all I can say is the last three that I chopped myself all have drip rails

Never get tired of the pics of your work, you have been cutting gl*** as long as I have been alive ! Mostly I would like to see you get the shop truck goin...I love the look/concept of it. Do you have any pics from the early days of your career you could scan and post?

hey did you do the windshield in that 57 lincoln that you posted a picture of?

friend of mine is working on a chopped 57 lincoln... stock, original gl***?, how much was that car chopped? were the "A" pillars leaned in or was the roof widened on top? do you have any pictures of how you cut the gl***?

would love to see more pictures of it

  9. Thanks Chris,
That lincoln was a problem child. it would have been nice if I had a old factory windshield, but instead it was a Argentine re-pop that work OK on stock applications but **** when trying to cut.
It had a 4 inch chop. those heavy wrap around windshields are like removing the center of a piramid and trying to line everything up. looking from the side if you take 2-3 inches off the top. the windshield moves away from the roof. it needs to lean back. so you take nearly the same amount off the bottom corners; which in turn makes the windshield narrow up. this car the gl*** was 3/8 inch inside the pinch weld. Had to flatten the pinch weld on the A piller. another problem at the top curve of the wrap does the oppisite of the bottom! it gets wider.
to make a long story short I took off a little here, checked it. took a little there, checked it. probably had the windshield in and out 100 times before I ever put a gasket on it

  10. Purely opinion ... :D Not necessarily fact.

  11. this by far the most expensive chop I've ever done 2 windshields=$1800 plus materials and a **** load of intensive labor. you and your buddy have fun. if you have an original gl*** you are many steps ahead of this one

Nice work. I prefer rain gutters and all the t*******s myself, although it depends on the car really.

  13. the truck is getting close. I just have to quit making changes. for the early photos I have to get a scanner up and running. then edit the ones with the Afro and plaid double knit bell bottoms and wide white belts:eek::D

  16. Jim, your work is superb! I didn't mean my previous comment to sound so harsh, kinda' makes me seem like an ***hole! (Thats probably because I am one!)
Your 48 3 window is one of the very few that look just right, like it could have been factory, attests to your superb workmanship. Can't wait to see more pic's.

Jim, is that Plymouth (suburban?) in the first set of pictures the one you pieced together?

If so, it turned out great. I really like it.

  19. not to worry I'm not the sensitive type. besides ***holes are like Opinions everyone has (or is) one

If my 48 looks factory I screwed up big time. I do claim to be the first one I ever saw. I started mine Aug 19 1993 haven't touched it in 15 years but it will be finished. it is next in line after my GMC.

I think George in Colorado has the perfect factory 3 window. it is stunning.

  20. I'd try Lynn Steel Rubber Products 1-800-544-8665

  21. Ken, still regret I didn't bring my 48 HEMI plate along with you and ZAPATO lol. yep that wagon is the best I've done (or didn't do) I just p***ed it on to a friend to finish and he's really cooking.

Just went back. No the 53 wagon was built by a customer. It is awesome, Bob has had a number of very nice rides.

The roof on that shoe box coupe is very, very well done. I like all the traditional stainless t*******s and everything but this cars 1/4 windows and roof proportions are superb.

  24. there is a story that went with that ford. It was a beauty. shaved doors and no safety switch. left the remote on the front seat. I get alot of those.

I was looking at some color chips and found a crysler black cherry that looked good. might get a little and spray something to look at.

Fantastic!work! Talkin to an old guy one time about his chop on a 38 chevy sedan he said "ifin it aint chopped its an antique car with a set of wheels on it" bout sums it up

  27. I do all kinds of old car gl***. but when I build them most likely gonna end up chopped with flames. I built one in 1990 and all the young mini truckers thought flames and Moon Disc's were lame. I like to say I stand in one place and every 20 years I come into style lol

We have the louvered plate he did for us that day on Vicki's truck. Every time I look at it I think of that day his shop.
