A few pics of my 56 Chevy survivor!

Just wanted to share a few pics of my 56. I purchased this car as a roller in April from California. It spent damn near its whole life in Sunnyvale, Ca. All original paint and body panels. It hasn't been on the road in over 25 years til now. I did a 60's theme on the car using 28" Hurst cheaters with steel wheels in back, vintage 15x4 Rocket front wheels, fenderwell headers, 64 Impala SS bucket seats, 60 Impala steering wheel, etc. Everything is vintage except the drivetrain. That is where I wanted to do something really different with this look. I installed a 2001 LS1 with 6 speed manual trans. This car is a blast to drive and gets great gas mpg! I am doing the Hot Rod Power tour with my Dad in this car next June since it is starting only 20 minutes from my house.

Love the car!!! I would yank the engine out asap and thow something a but cooler in but if it drives and stop fuck it!! Enjoy that thing for a good long while.

 

Wow I kinda new I was going to get that reaction about the motor on this web site. Oh well, the look on people's face at a car show is funny. I think they are just expecting to see a greasy looking small block in it. It draws a crowd wherever I take it. I just got it going this summer and took it up to Car Crafts summer nationals, and I wasn't even there 10 minutes until Car Craft came and got me to do a photoshoot with the car! Look for it in a upcoming issue of Car Craft if anyone gets that magazine anymore.

Very nice, EFI is the only way to go nowadays. I'm going to do something similar with my '55 2-door sedan, except with a TPI. It only has 30,000 original miles on it, and it doesn't run right.....carburetors and all that crap is for the birds.

I'd admit I like the motor...if I was on another site! The engine is acceptable because you drive it and your going on the power tour! Have a good trip!

And here I was hoping to see a dual quad,solid liftered,heavily cammed,high compressioned, high winding 327 4 speed under the hood....Other than that nice car!

Very nice car and I dig the period correct outside even if the motor is not. I did not know that you could get fenderwell headers for an LS motor. Cool though.

 

Great looking car. That's gotta be a blast to drive - those LS motors run HARD. With the hood down, you'd never even know what's lurking under it.

Hahaha.... whatever. EFI is great, and all, but you know as well as I do, carburetors can be extremely reliable, trouble-free, and simple.

 

That's a cool car. I'm a carb man myself, but you did great with what you had. Nice job. I'll be on the look out for the media rag.

 

Nice. The boys are being pretty merciful about the engine, probably because the car is so damn cool! The LS engines are strong, kinda like the way OHV engines compare to flatheads. Its all in the heads.

 

Of the Tri-5 Chevy's, the '56 is my favorite and I'm really digging your ride.

You might, however, want to consider keeping the hood closed, at least around here.

I think the ls motor is awesome. I would not change a single thing on this car!!!!!!!!

 

Very nice ride dude, congrats. A little bashin on ya for the powerplant is to be expected here, but IMO it's hard to not appreciate how easy it is to make big power with the LS engines, carbureted or not. I dig it!!
Would it be more acceptable if it was a carb'd LS?

Super cool lookin' 56! It must run pretty hard with that LS motor too. How hard was the swap? I'd bet you got the only LS1 powered anything with fenderwell headers.

 

the car looks good, congrats on a job well done. that to me is what hot rodding is all about.
