Just go for it, brother! You were a gentleman (and had the balls) to ask us for an opinion...and just take it all in and do YOUR thing!

I say to hell with all the engine haters! You built your car, your way so enjoy it! At least you didn't try and make it look like a Flathead or an Oldsmobile or try to cover up and make it look like something it's not. Too many posers and 'what's your opinion' or 'what do you think' people hanging around these days. Get an idea, make a plan and execute it as best you can. I think it looks great, never change a thing!

Lets say it's 1965 and you just bought a street 56 from the neighbor down the block. What motor would you put in it? The nastiest thing you could get out of the junk yard. Wrecked Police cars were a favorite. Well you done exactly that.

Nobody ran old school unless their uncle helped them build it as a disguised piece like a big Buick dressed up as a 322 or something. Yeah, I got beat by some dual quad 327 motors back then, and I was running a G2 300HP Y block :( But if they could have gotten their hands on your motor, it would have been in there by Saturday night :) My cousin beat me up more with his 57 and FI 327 four speed. Yours is just an updated version of his build :)

The body is perfect for a real street car. I'd hang the front bumper, but flip it to go with the forward look grill and headlights. 56 are the coolest of the tri-5's in my book. The salvaged all chevy interior is the creme de la creme - exactly correct.

We might have painted the rear wheels hammered silver, or maybe not. If you really want to scare the neighbor boys, put some sheet metal screws through rim into the bead. They will catch the eye and they mean you run low pressure when you are serious. Keeps the babble boys away :)

haha, when there is no more petroleum left, putting a LS1 engine in my car won't help me much...I will admit, the car in discussion probably is an EXTREMELY fun car, however a 3x2 or dual quad 348/409 would open my eyes wider even if it was slower. im not a fan of computers.

Heres a shitty pic of the inside. Not much there but a set of 64 buckets and a Hurst shifter.

First let me say you suck!! Why? Well, just look at your car...that thing is solid as the day is long....here in the lovely state of salt, we are happy to not have rusted roofs, let alone no rust anywhere. DAMN. That car is really sweet. The look/stance is awesome as can be.

Now, about your comment above that I quoted you saying...LS1 motor and dick just don't go together. YES THEY DO....on a site like this they go perfectly together here is how, in regaurds to you putting one in your 56.... Man can you belive that dick put and LS1 in that sweet 56?!!!! Not only does it go together figuratively, you did it literally!!! Just givin ya some shit..... You have a great ride, enjoy!!

A big congrats on your build.

Youve done what every guy out there in every decade has done to a tri 5 chevy and thats using the modern power plant for the decade your hot rodding in. Glad you kept everything else nostalgic-very nice.

This car is as exciting as the first hot rodded tri-5s in the mid 1960s with muscle car big block power. Now, how about showing us some time slips?

I will buy Car Craft just one more time. lol!

Barnfind 56, Wow man! Killer 56, one of my favorite years. That drive train has got to be awesome to drive, LS1 with a 6 speed spinning 4:56's in a cool looking car (not a ugly 2000 Camaro). High horsepower and light engine with gears to launch hard and an overdrive for the highway. Beautiful man.

I feel eventually I will go this way. The looks of the engine need a little help. Maybe the engine needs some good old Chevy orange paint. I know it's aluminum, but an orange engine is nice. And maybe detail/paint all the black plastic looking dodads and gizmos with a silver or magnesium looking paint. It just needs something, I can't put my finger on it just yet.

    This car is awesome!!
The stance is perfect, the look of the car is totally old school, and I wouldn't change the paint or the dent in the fender for anything.
This thing reminds me of a few of the cars I drove as a kid, I love it.
The motor on the other hand, I would have to go with a 327 or even build a 301.
You did a great job on the car, enjoy the trip with your father.
Remember, this is your car and you style, but being on a traditional site your gonna take some ribbing for the newer power plant!:)

I love the worn feel of patina.............My '55 is staying just the way it is except it will be faster.

I love the power of a modern engine, but HATE the way it looks and kills the '60s Gasser vibe. I really want to run the Vortec Fast burn heads on my next 383 because they make big power cheap, but I can't stand the look of center bolt valve covers.

Car looks great, but keep the hood shut around the traditionalist.

Maybe we can race next year at the HAMB DRAGS? Old vs New?

Really nice car, and I outa' know! Some time back, there was a question on the forum about where to photograph a car. One of my suggestions was to use a cemetary as a backdrop; they're normally clean and well kept, have great architecture, and not a lot of people are ususally around to get nosey. You proved my point! As far as the engine goes.....that's just it, I bet it really "goes". Butch/56sedandelivery.

As much as I bask in this car's utter awesomeness, it does need one thing visually......to lose that plastic intake. I know they're good intakes from a performance standpoint, but BAM there it is looking you in the face with it's textured black lowrise econocar-ish nastiness.

No ETs yet? Gotta be a solid 12 second car. Low 12s if its got a big cam. Will keep my eye out for it at area events this summer. Good luck!

Great car. The engine haters would change their minds in a second if they ever saw it run.

That has nothing to do with it.

Back to a point I've made a few times. This car is "traditional". As some note, putting as much power as available at the time was the "traditional" way.

It's not period correct though. "Traditional" is sort of a stupid word for what most here like IMO. The car looks great. I admit that I would like better mileage and I imagine that drivetrain will last a very long time, it's just that it's ugly as sin.

The car certainly is a nicer ride visually IMO than what the engine came out of. You post pics, you get opinions. I'm sure the car will be a huge hit with the majority of people. BTW, while I dislike the drivetrain, I still respect the work and ability it takes to do that.

Awesome car... if your touring that's a great choice of motor and lets face it a motor can be swapped at anytime if you decided. if it looks right, sounds right, drives right whos gives a fuck! the main thing with a car visually as far as i'm concerned is what it looks like on the street cruising/racing... no one can see the motor then ;)

This probably isn't the case. However imagine this engine is what he has "kickin around". Should he spend another another 4 to 8 grand to achieve a "traditional look" example (409,327 with 2x4) or use what he has. I think the latter is a little more traditional!!!!
