Wind the clock back to 1980 at the NSRA Western Nats in San Jose and a much skinnier Weasel was standing innocently checking out the cars at the San Jose Fairgrounds when this cacophony of sound let loose and this pair of almost matching black painted steel 1933 Willys g***er coupes rolled in with uncorked headers - instant Willys addiction for life. One of them was blown with a pink beltline stripe - the other unblown with a blue beltline stripe. However, I never did find anything more about this fine pair, but as the photo of the two of them with the model shows, they were subject of a photo shoot and magazine article. Sorry about the poor photos - these are the ones I shot on my cheap*** film camera. Does anyone remember them and have any history on them - who owned them are they still around?
I seem to recall the one with the Centerlines being an ISCA circuit car. Will have to dig out the show world programs and see if I'm right.
I thought the same thing, so I dug through my collection a bit and finally found the image I was thinking of from a 1988 HRM 'Best of Hot Rod Show World' magazine. Maybe it's the same car? Kinda doubtful but you never know. I know this doesn't help much, but after digging through all that I gotta post the picture. Sorry for the photo-of-a-photo.
Danny I don't think that is the same car - filled top, blower scoop sits much lower, Jim Drinker one piece windshield frame, bobbed front fenders, no front bumper, electroline headlights, Pro bleat rear wheels and tires, dropped tube axle. I know for sure the pair were featured in a magazine around 1981 from that shoot in San Jose, but I cannot remember which mag. And thanks Shakey, I needed that love...
One of those Willys was owned and still is by Al Finnes brother. That's Al from Al's Automotive that was in Brisbane Ca. in the 60's and 70's. He's the fellow who use to make the spindle kits and tube axles that all the jacked up cars in the Bay Area used.
Thanks choke - at last some solid information - I would love to see those bad boys again. Any idea where it is now?
