SamF, you might be an old school hamb'r but i think you are a sick **** and if you have a hard time understanding that you'd be brave enough to post where you live so's i can come and explain. Am i clear on that?

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. . .as well as the marriage proposals -- LOL! As for the colour scheme, and the reason for changing it. . .my interior is already over the top. The inset panels are zebra striped and the rest of the seat is crushed black velvet (and the door panels will be when I'm finished). My mom and I spent a great deal of time doing my interior, and well, I'm kinda attached to it. . .she's certainly recognizable as it, and I'd like to keep her that way. The blue, especially, with the "over the top" design that James D has been kind enough to re-do for me three or four times, clashes horrifically with the zebra stripe. You wanna talk about much too much. . . What I like about this design, personally (and we'll play around with the placement of the scallops once it comes time to shoot her properly), is that from the front it looks fairly tame, but once she drives by -- BAM! The Edsel is a pretty dayum over the top car anyway. . .the design that James D has created, in my opinion, bring those lines to life, highlighting and magnifiying them. . . And yep, you're all right. She is my car and of course, she'll be at the D & D so all the Austin boys can mock my first effort with a paint gun

I agree, SamFs comment was ignorant. I personally like the silver and black and the overall design. Look at some of Watsons stuff, it's all over the top. 40StudeDude, why don't you photoshop your version so we can all see what you are talking about. Might be interesting.

Great Job. I have found that no matter how simple or difficult a task is or how many other people know how to do it, its always very gratifying to have learned and actually done it. There are a billion people who can do what you just did and there are also a billion people who THINK they can do what you just did. So dont be ashamed of being proud. Please don't take offense to this but I think the photoshop paint job looks too busy. I think that the lines of the black/white really contrast with the lines of the mouldings and body lines. I know customs have some crazy paint schemes, but I believe that there is a huge difference between an "over-the-top" paint job and a paint job that clashes with the automobile. I think the car would look way better if was panel painted with some fades and stuff rather than scallops. That is just my opinion but either way its kick *** that your not scared to work on your car.
Great effort, I have painted my own daily driver GMC truck so many times and after awhile you start to get the hang of it. Like they say, it's all practice.
First off, thanks for the kudos, they are sincerely appreciated! Second, no offense taken whatsoever. I've got a long way to go before laying down any "real" paint, and the rendering that James D has done is a template, a guide, an inspiration for what I'm going to do. . .once we get to the stage of actually tapin' her off, picking out and laying down colours, we'll be working with a real car, in 3-D, and will see what visually works best. We'll figure it out along the way. . .and who knows? I'm a grrl, a woman has a right to change her mind, doesn't she? Alright, enough HAMBing. More sanding. Gonna try and get one of the back quarter panels done today. . .back to work on Weds and want to get her "rear" finished up before the business of life gets in the way of me working on my car.
Way to go sweetie! The painting part is so much more fun then the sanding part but ya can't do one sucessfully without the other. Looking forward to more process photos. (SAM, quit drinking and HAMBing, the two don't mix )

Two quick things for those interested (and for those not, I'm not sure why you're reading this at all ) First, got the back p***enger side quarter panel done yesterday. Rear is almost done and should be totally shot in epoxy primer by Friday. Movin' along, slowly but surely. Will start on the hood and front quarter panels, after our event is over. . .then on to the doors. . .then to the "real" paint. . . Second, have gotten a couple of PMs asking about the Mox Miller 58' Impala, which was the inspiration James D used. Ask and ye shall receive:
Quick pic update, and the last for a couple of weeks (our Toys for Tots Benefit Event is next weekend -- shamless self promotion, for a good cause ), and won't have much time until around X-Mas, but I accomplished my current goal and seem to be keeping to my own project timeline. Rear end is almost completely in epoxy sealer (we'll hit the area below the tail lights when I remove the bumper -- gonna do that at the same time as dismantling the grill, since she'll be off the road for a few weeks at that point). Both rear quarters are done!! Rear driver quarter before: Rear driver quarter sanded, taped off: Rear driver quarter in epoxy sealer (rear panels shot by Ritchie, as my first effort ended in runs extraordinare , I think I'll stick to shooting flatter surfaces for the time being): The "refreshed rear": I'm really stunned at how defined her lines are now, even in the epoxy primer. . .really is motivating me even more to get her completely sanded down so I can see how she really looks completely naked And have been more than pleasantly surprised at how little rust there is on the rear of this car. . .a few pin-holes here and there, nothing major at all. . .we'll see what happens once we get the bumper off and really get a good look at the areas which are currently covered up. Short hiatus on this project because other commitments are going to take priority, but I'll update y'all when I get back to work. Thanks again to all y'all for the encouragement; really keeping me motivated continue the 9 million hours of sanding I have to go. . .
