I have to second the cruiser skirts. I always wanted to do that when that car was mine. That big ol' slab body just begs for cruiser skirts.

A few pics from today. . .progress. . not a ton, but moving forward is always better than not moving at all ;)

The nails, of course, are black, in honour of what will be her paint:

Sanding and more sandin'. . .

    Today's progress. . .

But of course, I did get dirty, which means I accomplished something, right? ;)

I keep thinkin'. . .Gawd. . .what the hell have I gotten myself into? :D

Will get back on it tomorrow. . .front bumper, cleaning up the cracks and crevices on the back. . .keep movin' onward and forward and this will get done, right? ;)

  5. What have you got yourself into...I'd say you got yourself into a great project! It's looking better everytime I see it!

That is very inspirational. It inspires me to paint my nails black too. That is because, I don't have the know how to paint my car. And I'm too lazy to do so.

But, its looking like good progress. Good job.

Have you seen my interior? It isn't going to be black + grey. . .it will be shiny gloss black, with silver scallops. . .AGAIN, colour will clash with the zebra stripe and crushed velvet. . .

Thanks darlin'. . .just a frustrating day. . .feel like I'm not moving as fast as I need to on this. . .

Aww. . .blush blush. . .like I said, just frustrated. . .I guess I'm learning patience along the way here too. . .and the value of small steps. . .

you are braver than i am. i dont think i would have that much good steel left on mine if i took it down that far. i would effectively sand my car right into the dust pan.

you know how to eat an elephant right? one bite at a time and your paint job is one big ass shiny elephant. at least you are still motivated, dedicated to getting it on the road.

chat you up later. and its gettin there.

Excellent work - and what a solid car that is!!
I´m gagging to see this in paint.

  14. Nice work!
Please be careful with your hair and rotating tools. My first day of shop class the teacher pulled out the scalp of some kid that didn't tie his hair back. Not a pretty sight.

I'm gonna +3 the cruiser skirts...real ones from a '58 Merc, not aftermarket ones. Pricey, but I think they'd fit and the car would look bitchin' with 'em! Looooong and looooow! My $.02.

Maybe some HAMBer's got a set hanging in his garage that he'd donate to the cause...?

Great project! I'm looking forward to seeing it in April!

+4!!!! I'd love that, but once paint is done, the $$$ I just spent on a new carb, new battery, new hoses, new belt, new gaskets, and other new stuff just to keep her running, as well as the odds and ends left to install (new headliner, new shifter knobs). . .I am one broke grrl

Anyone got any lyin' around? ;):D

Thanks y'all. . .seriously. . .you are a large part of what keeps me motivated to finish. . .the "atta-gal" comments really help, more than you'll ever know. . .:D

DAYUMIT!! He's got BOTH the skirts I want AND the Edsel spinners!!! I heart those things. . .but pretty penny doesn't even begin to cover the cost of them. . .although IF I had the skirts, I'd ONLY need two of the spinner caps, huh? ;):D

Talked to my buddy he says those skirts are originals from 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser, but they repop them now...

The caps are from Olds, but he does have a set of the Edsel Spinners for the coupe in the background, it was his grandfathers...

If you have the patience to sit though that much body art, I think you can wait till you have the right combo!

I think the black is a natural. Never really go wrong with black. Sometimes on a large car it gets lost. I agree with flat. I think the flake as trim lines is good.

I would have suggested a different blue, although the turqouis bottom looks good on that car with the black and the flake roof. Keeping the Edsel trim and lines great idea too. Its like a 57 without trim. Just plain wrong.

The other blue I thought of, and yes curse me for watching it, but Foose did a 63 Falcon in a flat cobalt looking blue, it really fit the car. Edsel beign a Ford, I think it would go to.

And its nice to see you do have a face!:)
