That's going to be awesome. I'll be looking for it at the Round-Up.

That tail pan is clean, this is obviously a southern car. Mine had holes all along that bottom edge, I had to make a lot of pieces to fix it.

Gotten VERY lucky. . .one quarter size bit that's rusted thru and that's about it. . .

Headin' out to the shop, in the cold and wind and rain. . .I'll see what I can get done tonight. . .

No body filler until it warms up. . .don't wanna skim coat anything until the metal is warmer, don't need shrinkage at this point ;)

P.S. Thanks for the comments on the back piece. . .one more session and it will be done (prolly not before Round-Up, but it is lookin' like my back and my car may still be "works in progress" before then). . .

    Off to the shop!!!:D

A bit more done tonight, with drock6570's invaluable help. . .he was kind enough to crawl under my car and get the bumper bolts off for me (not enough upper body strength to get the bastards off :(. . .but he was a trooper, even smackin' himself in the face with a wrench on my behalf ).

She looked like this at the start of the eve:

Got the grill and rest of the chrome off the front, and voila! Looks like surface rust only. . .I'll know more after I sand her down tomorrow. . .

    Air tools are fun ;)

The LAST BIT OF CHROME. . .This piece had been the bane of my existence (I've literally spent about 5 hours trying to get this ONE piece off my car ). . .Many thanks to TP for sending me a GREAT little sawblade. . .was able to cut off one bolt, then gently pry off the last two. . .FINALLY!!!

The reason the last bit wouldn't come off was that the metal clip had rusted off, and the dayum thing just kept spinnin' and spinnin' and spinnin'

Sanding and more sanding tomorrow. . .I'll shoot the front and rear in rattle can rust converter primer, and then wait on the weather to clear so I can start with body fill. . .

Productive couple of hours, and it feels really good to be back on this and makin' progress. . .

Almost there. Be careful with rattle can rust converter, first off the shit doesnt work and second I wouldn't trust it under any paintjob.

The 'caps in these photos are Olds...issat what you want? If it is, I've got a set that need a new home and I'd be honored to donate them to the cause. Can't think of a better place for 'em to go. They'll look a lot better on your Edsel than they do in a cardboard box in my barn.

Got it. Won't use it then. Should I hit it with the epoxy primer (same stuff I used on the body) or with POR? Don't wanna screw this up, considering how far I've come on her. . .

WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! :eek:VERY GENEROUS OF YOU!!

(Just quick FWIW: It was late and my resolution on my computer ain't the greatest, and thought they were Edsel spinners -- which, by the by, are a rare part -- the originals are ridickulous, and the re-pops are even stoooopid expensive )

I'd be honoured . . .seriously. . .and I think they'd look killer!!!

Y'all make me misty eyed. . .between you and TUMBLEWEED GARAGE, I'm gonna cry like a little girl

No POR either. I vote for the same epoxy, why change now? What have you been using?

I'll have to get the brand name from my paint guy, but it is epoxy primer, really top notch stuff. . .but don't have access to a paint booth at the moment (and won't until we go back after fill and block sanding for next layer of primer, then block sand, then real paint). . .

Soooo. . .question is. . .should I just wait until I get her back to the booth, shoot that layer of epoxy, sand, then shoot primer, sand again, then real paint?

She's inside out of the elements, so I'm not worried terribly about exposed metal right now, and she won't be on the road until she's taken to the paint booth for the final stages, but do I need to worry about gettin' something on her for the time being?

I don't think so. If the next round's plan was more epoxy and blocking then you might as well just wait for that. I'd rather see you have to scuff off some surface junk before the primer than rick it by puttin junk underneath your shiny paint. You're on the home stretch!

Yeah, but why does this stretch feel like the 20 mile mark of a freakin' marathon?:rolleyes:

I'm off all next week, and weather permitting, should be able to fill and block sand her down, then off to the paint booth the week after (fingers, toes, legs and arms crossed).

Will do. No rust converter primer. Will just make sure she's sanded down completely clean and shoot, sand, shoot, sand, paint, wet-sand, buff.

Wow. That made it sound easy, huh? ;)

If it was easy, everyone would do it. Then we would have no rusty flat black painted rat rods to poke fun at... :D :D Oooops, did I type that out loud?!?!?

Have actually gotten a fair amount done this past week. . .and have pics to prove it! ;):D

First off, again, THANK YOU to missysdad1 for the stunningly stellar hubcaps. . .Here's how they look on my grrl:

And then we started the body work. . .

Hellonwheels graciously offered to cut out some of the cancer on her tail, he did a MAGNIFICENT job, in my humble opinion. . .matching the contours, really being delicate so as to not cause more blow outs. . .BEAUTIFULLY done:

    Before:

    Hellonwheels makin' sparks fly:

The section he cut out, front:

The back of the same section:

    Finished work:

    Skimcoated with Evercoat Metal Glaze:

Then FlatBroke also showed me how to mix up the body filler, skim coat, and sand down, and he shaped some of the more tricky sections (still some work to do on the door, because he's not happy with it. . .he's a perfectionist and I appreciate that completely, however, it looks a DAYUM site better than it did, and I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF HIS HARD WORK):

Um. . .yeah. . .still some more light skim coating to do. . .and lots and lots and lots more sanding. . .but if I stay on it for the next 3 days, she should be ready for primer on Monday (keep your fingers crossed). . .Note: nails are coated in filler right now. . .no pretty ;)

Lots of block sanding left to do (actually had gotten more done than this when I left tonight, but this was the last pic I snapped):

Feels really really really good to be back on this project, I'm wiped out, arms are sore, but really proud of myself. . .but even more. . .

So honoured to call the people I do friends. . .I am a very lucky woman :D

It gives me a little motivation to go out in the garage and work on my Edsel

  30. That is mighty fine and very RE-fined. Excellent job, and beautiful sensibilities on your part.
That would also look way haute on Squarebird or a '58 F100!!- can't wait to see it done.
