When sparks fly, cool things happen. This is going to be a very cool car - great job!

  2. Progress is looking good. It's amazing how little body damage and rust you had to deal with. That is one well kept car. Most of the stuff I get here is quite the Opposite. Something I noticed in the Photo's I'd like to mention. I have learned this the hard way several times. Exposed Glass and grinders are arched Enemies. Any time a grinder throws a fan tail of sparks they fly further than you think and are hot enough to burn Glass even after they stop glowing. I see your windows are not covered or even the car next to yours. I use Cardboard, ole packing blankets and bed covers, anything but sheets. When a hot spark hits Glass it sticks and when knocked off there is a pit. I have bought more glass for other people than I want to remember from thinking it's far enough away, I'm OK. When welding or grinding close to windows I throw an old welding coat on top of the cover (when I remember). Bitched up Glass on a nice ride Sucks. This is a common over looked issue and is generally found the next time you wash the car or turn on the Wipers. I hope yours is not a Vicktom yet. Keep up the good progress.

LOL! After this paint job, dunno if I'll ever do another one again. . .

Hot Rods to Hot Bods? I like it. . .while I'm at it, I think I'll also market a line of Hot Rod power tools for grrrrls. . .the grips need to be smaller; I've gotten more blisters in the past several months because my hands aren't big enough. . .

One of the guys at work was jokin' that I should do a 30 min show for grrls and cars. . .be like the "Rachel Ray" of cars. . .we could call it "30 Minute Carbs" ;):D

Yup. All me all the time. . .and unfortunately, no ink on my arms, no sleeves. . .I'm a teacher (waitin' tables/bartendin' to pay for car parts/paint on the side). . .School boards tend to frown on visible tattoos :(

well i dunno about all that ^ up there.....nice to see the update. good to see some updates and someone working on their car here. i'd rather re-read this thread than look at most of the "whats this worth?" or "what wheels?"

i like that its your car, your choices, and your work. it doesnt hurt to ask for input but theres got to be some substance or reality to it as well.

good work and keep it up. lets see some paint.

Thanks for the encouragement, darlin'. . .she's coming along . .

The weather conspired against me this week. . lots of rain, lots of cold, lots of humidity. . couldn't get fill on her, didn't want to risk it shrinkin' up on me or not setting properly. . .

The plan at this point is to at least have her in primer by Round-Up. . .I'd rather have her all in one colour, tack my chrome back on, then take the time after Round-Up to REALLY make sure everything is done the right way before I lay down paint.

She's gonna be shiny. Black. Every little ding dent depression and wave will show if I don't go slow and steady. And after all the time and energy and money I've already put into her, I'm not willing to compromise her final paint for a show. . .

She's my grrl, my absolute love, and its not like she's going anywhere. . .I'd rather take an extra month or so AFTER Round-Up to make sure she's as close to perfect as possible before shooting paint. .

I've also found patch panels for my front fenderwells, so rather than just sculpting bondo in those problem areas, we can do it the right way, put in new metal, and not have future problems arise. . .

So, I'm off to the shop in just a mo, to get her ready for primer. . .more pics this eve. . .we should be shootin' the primer this week, and then fix some details (front seat, possibly headliner, new caps, new shifter knobs, put chrome back on for Round-Up) and get her ready for the big dance. . .

Thanks again, all for keepin' me motivated. . . one step at a time. . .

  20. I sure hope your Fender patches Fit better than the ones I bought for my 57 Ford. They were from EMS. I have 2 threads showing the issues I had with them. Wish I knew how to stick the Link here with this message. There are some Photos there of what I had to do.
    Keep up the good work.

Hmmmm. . .Wizzard, think they might be the same ones. . .found'em thru MACs, the catalog said they're interchangable with 59' Ford. . .I'm callin' on Monday to see. . .thanks for the heads up!!

  22. Like I said in my Thread. I should have just hand made them but I had already spent the $$$ to save time. What a Joke. If you were a little closer I'd lend a hand and make the repair for ya. They really are not that difficult.

    Hey, Frankie!

Here's another angle you may not have thought of...

The best source of patch panels is from OEM parts which have suffered collision damage in another area. I bet if you put the word out you could find solid left and right front fender bottoms which have been torched off otherwise ruined fenders. Some HAMBer's got 'em, and I bet the price would be right, too.

The great thing about putting off paint in favor of primer for the Roundup is that you can primer over some of your grrl's "unfinished business" - like the fender bottoms - then take 'em up later and do 'em right. Good decision. Looking forward to meeting you in Austin. :)

A few pics from the last week. . .she's goin' in to be shot in black primer on Sat. . .so we're close to the finish line in some ways. . and oh, so far in others. ..

Last Monday, I was fortunate enough to have my Mom and Dad come out and help. . .both are incredible. . meticulous. . .detailed. . .I'm extremely blessed to have both of them in my life and that they're both so willing to help out. . .

My Dad, detailing out the front grill area. . .

The tail light area that Mom completely cleaned up:

Pulled off the hood and I worked on it while Mom and Dad took car of the front grill and tail area. . .

It looks like, at some point a tree (branch, perhaps?) fell across the hood. When I originally sanded her down, the fill on it was easily 1/2 thick and the lines on the hood were totally lost because the fill was so thick. . .

So hammered down the really high areas, and I'm in the process of finishing up the light layers of metal glaze. . .skim coating, sanding, skim coating again and again. .

At one point in my sanding, with the low areas, I found a badger on my car. . .or at least what it looked like to me ;)

    Getting smoother. . .

She's almost completely block sanded. . .a few light light light areas where I've got a really light area of metal glaze on her to sand down tomorrow. . .

Today, Mom and I went back out to the shop. . .thinking that she'd be able to finish up my front seat (originally we'd just wrapped the bottom of the front seat in the crushed velvet fabric, and we hadn't cut and sewn a proper seat cover. . ).. .

Figured it would be a breeze. . .boy were we wrong. . .Literally, took us most of the day to disassemble the front seat, recut the fabric, put it back in. . .but it looks SO much more finished and really looks fantastic. . .

Pulled out the front seat. . .

Stripped the fabric off, cut it, Mom sewed it up. . .reattached it, found the hardware to attach the original side seat guards. . .Voila!

And then, as I was cleaning out the back seat. . .and getting ready to get back on body work. . .discovered that the mice had decided that my rear seat would make a perfect nesting material. . .

    The little bastards. . .

Luckily, Mom had her sewing machine, we had extra fabric, and well. . .time. . .so we disassembled the rear seat, re-cut the section that the mice had taken away to use for their nests. . .and fixed it. . .

Meanwhile, Drock was installing the door panels my Mom did for him. ..

And our friend Robert came on by and sanded my head light buckets and got them cleaned up and shot in black paint. . .they're lookin' KILLER!!

Didn't have much time left to sand after workin' on the interior all day long, so we got the hood back on the car, with Drock and CooperCruiser's help. . . skim coated the final little dings and I'll be back sanding away tomorrow. . .

Saturday is the big day for black primer!!! Then tack on her chrome for the Round-Up and I think she'll be good to go for this leg of the journey. . .

I am a really fortunate woman. . .I have AMAZING friends, WONDERFUL family. . .this has really been a TEAM effort. . .I have so many people to thank for all their help. . .their donations of time, effort, talent, parts. . .and all y'all's encouragement. . .

She's gonna look good, not done, but GOOD for the Round-UP, in no small part, thanks to all of you!! :D

Be careful not to leave any of that Sharpee badger on there when you go to top coat - it will come right back up through the paint.
