No gun for me today :(, but that's probably for the best :). . .I'm sure I would have completely cocked up my roof and had to re-do it all over again, and welllll, I ain't in no dayum mood for doing work twice ;)

Ritchie (of Ritchie's Paint Shop here in Austin) shot the metallic base coat, flake and 3 coats of clear on my roof today. . .and whoooo boy what a difference doing it right makes!!!

Today, with a little help from my friends, got her lookin' less like a primered nightmare and more like a custom paint job. . .

    8Sparkplugs hard at work

psycopainter (Ritchie) shootin' the base coat

    Base coat only

    Then a little flake. . .

    Yummy. . .

And we went from this, back at Thanksgiving when I began this painting journey. . .Her "flake" (and I use the term loosely) BEFORE:

    To this (before clear)

And this (after 1st coat of clear)

She's cookin' tonight, hardening up, then comes wetsanding, and then layin' out the roof outline. . .

Well, and since we were waitin' around with nothin' to do in between coats of primer, base coat, flake and clear, we got started strippin' down El Lunchetto's car as well. . .

All in all. . .an extremely productive day. . .

After wetsanding and layin' out the roof scallops, we'll move on to the minor body work on the top of the hood and decklid, get that shot in paint, then move down to the front grill & rear bumper and take care of that fuglyness, the start shooting the doors and lower half of the car. . .

Only 12 weeks to Round-Up. . .She will be done, as gawd is my witness, she will be done!! :D;)

Roof looks nice. Is the dark color on the body going to be blue or black? In the original photoshop it was blue, I liked that, but then it was changed to black. Did you make a decision there?

We're goin' with black and silver. My interior is just way to over the top (crushed black velvet and zebra print inset panels) to go with the blue.

We're gonna bring some blue back in a couple of ways. . .with pinstriping, and even tho the pics don't show it all that well, the undertone on the silver is a bit icy blue. . .there's a hint of it in that base coat which will also be there in the silver on the side of the car as well. . .

Sounds good. How long until we have pics of the body with color on it? How much bodywork do you have left?

Not a terrible ton. . .Nothin' that can't be taken care of with a lot of time and patience. . .

Front quarters have some ugly crap (nothin' like yours, to be sure ;)) that need to be cut out. . .

Deck lid, couple of minor dings & one small area of pin holes

Each of the doors (because they're shaved) need to be re-glazed and have some minor dings smoothed out

Hood needs a bit of pounding out and glazing

Don't know what evil lurks behind the grill and fenders, but it doesn't look too terrible bad. . .

And then weldin' in the "Ranger" script holes, the "Edsel" side lettering holes and the side mirror holes, which I can't do, but shouldn't take too long to do. . .although Lux has promised to teach me to weld, so maybe this'll be my first attempt at it. . .:D

Overall, rough estimate? 25 hours, maybe? And the block sanding, which, simply because she's a hella big car, will take an age. . .

Gettin' there. . .one step at a time. . .

Uncanny... was just lookin' at the same flake for my roof. Wanted to go metallic or flatz silver on my body (the car) because my stock interior (green) is way to cherry for me to justify changing. You are mighty fortunate to have the friends you do. Can't wait to see further developments!

Very nice, I gotta get something to flake, not because I think I'm that good, but because I want to learn how.

Awwww. . .thank y'all. . .I will make this deadline. . .simply don't have a choice. . .I am NOT rollin' her into Round-Up without her paint being done. . .

'Course, her headliner might not be in. . .and my front seat might not be finished, and I might not have slept for the 4 days prior to Round-Up. . .but her paint will be done ;):D

I am fortunate. . .I have some really amazing friends who are incredibly generous with their time and expertise. . .I am a lucky lucky lady :D

  20. Oh Ya!! Now your Cookin. How about that feeling when you seen it start to Shine for the first time. My Squeeze got behind the Wheel of her Edsel for the first time on Sunday. Being a Wagon she was a little intimadated at first (Her daily is just a little thing). We went to Town about 25 miles. After dinner I started towards the Driver door out of habit and she said "What are you doing"? Maybe there is New paint in Her future also.

I've never been a big fan of flake but that really looks great. It sounds like that will be one sharp looking car when it is done.

LOL. . .are you talking about the "home flake" that was on there before I scraped it off (which was, apparently, Hobby Lobby cube glitter ) or the new stuff?

The new flake is Lil' Daddy Roth Surfite Silver, standard size. . .we talked about using Baby or Monster, but the Standard size seems to be "just right". . .;)
