We hear so much about shysters of all kinds on this site I thought it might be nice to hear about a good one. Just bought a set of wheels from Wheelguy and not only are they exactly what he described the condition is much better than expected. One of the real Goodguys, not a phony. Thanks again to Joe
I agree so that's why I want to tell you guys about Junkyard Jeff. I started a thread here last December looking for someone in the Louisville area to help me swap engines (223 straight 6) in my '60 Edsel because I had never done it before. When nobody around here volunteered Jeff spoke up and said he'd help me (actually me helping him) even though he lives 135 miles away in Dayton, Ohio. Long story short he made 5 trips here (all of the problems were my fault-wrong parts, etc.) and the "new" (used) 223 is in the car now and running great. Jeff is a cl*** act and a great mechanic and I wanted to let you guys know that there are still some good people out there willing to help others without asking for much in return....
I recently had a good experience with another member,Okie Pete. He sent the part and told me to pay him after I received the piece. HRP
For SURE ...... but ..... MOST BUYERS NEVER LEAVE FEEDBACK !!! It REALLY HELPS the sellers rep ( or lets the rest of us know to STAY AWAY !! ) ... if ya buy something -- LEAVE FEED BACK !! Good OR bad....
Big Deuce did me right in a trade. We swapped 32 hood tops a couple of years back, and when I got mine there was a fity dollar bill in the box with a note, to help out with the metal prep on my new hood. Pretty nice at a time when I was finishing a project and every buck counted.
Great thread, let's keep it going. I've had great dealings with a couple guys here, Delray, and Waynejell. Both honest guys!
When you are cruising the cl***ifieds here pay attention to if they post in the cl***ifieds only or if they also participate on the rest of the site. if they participate on the rest of the site, they tend to be a lot better people to deal with here. just remember some might be extremely busy too and only post occasionally but that is ok too just don't fall for the ones that use the cl***ifieds only, they tend to be the shady ones.
I have a unbelievable but good vendor story.I gave my friend a hand to ***emble his flathead. On the initial start up it fired up and ran really well and made no abnormal noises,we were so pleased with it. So we filled it with coolant fired it up then noticed a a small pin hole water leak then another one and then another one from the right hand head. Our initial excitement turned to despair. The head was a brand new Offenhouser head never been used before. It had flaws in the casting from the factory. Jeff still had the receipt for the heads from 1998 that was 17 years ago so who would honor that?.With the prospect of having to buy a pair of new heads he thought he would contact Speedway Motors who he had bought them from and explain to them the cir***stances and hoped that maybe they would contact Offenhouser and sell Jeff just the one new head. Well who would have ever thought after all that time any company would still honor their product and service. But Offenhouser did and gave Jeff a brand new head to replace the porous head at no cost. Now that's two businesses that did the right thing and to me you can't buy that sort of good publicity. Thank you Speedway Motors and Offenhouser for your good will.
I agree about Speedway's great customer service, and can add Summit to the list, and also Eastwood as people who back up what they sell. Won't bore you with a long post on details, but all 3 have gone beyond expectations on making things right for me.
I understand wanting to praise a GOOD vendor ...but there is ALREADY a thread on that I believe ...... we are talkin' about HOME PLATE .... so let's keep this one ON HAMB GUYS like it started ......
Well excuse me!!!!!!!! I thought it was a thread to p*** along feel good feelings about people we have done business with! GEEZ!!!!!!!!
I gotta agree with Dave,I understand this thread is about hambers but anytime you have a good experience with anyone it's not going to ruin this thread but adding a slightly different attaboy,I for one appreciate hearing positive feedback about parts vendors also. HRP
You are so correct, there is a lot of shysters posting only in the cl***ifieds and never participate on any of the forums, some may be legit but I won't deal with them. HRP
I'm IN !!!!! and a GOOD PRO VENDOR would be ANOTHER GOOD THREAD to start ..... this one is for " Da BOYS " ......
HAMBer e1956v is off the charts awesome!! He owns Speedometer Services in Colorado Springs, Co. I had him make me a speedometer cable. He sent it to me and asked me not to pay him until I hooked it up and was happy with it. Of course, it was perfect. I also sent him a speedometer from the 1930s for a rebuild. He rebuilt it and it works great. Not only that he buffed it and sanded some of the scratches off the gl***. When he sent it back to me he told me not to pay him until it was in the car and I was happy. Of course it was perfect. I will be sending him another speedometer soon for a rebuild. If you need any gauge work completed....he should be your guy!!! Outstanding customer service and high quality work is his mantra.
I usually follow the same tactics as HRP about looking for other posts to get a feeling about someone who has posted an item for sale in which I have an interest, but I'm going to relate an incident where I did further investigation and I'm glad I did. Back up to Fall of 2014, I had BGII, my "A" Hiboy running quite well and was 9and still am) quite happy with it, But I had discovered that at a then 77 years of age I no longer could enjoy riding in a ******* and heaterless roadster as much as I did back when I was 18/19! Decided it was time for another hot rod for inclement weather, and that I wanted a Ford, preferably a coupe, from 37-40, and started looking around, both on HAMB and word of mouth thru the local hot rod community. Found a listing several months old on HAMB for a '40 coupe that sounded real nice. I didn't want a project,, or a stock engine car that couldn't comfortably cruise @ Xway speeds because I didn't feel I had it in me to build another project at my age. The car description (no pics) sounded like what I wanted, so I did a search on HAMB for previous postings. Only thing I found was a couple of much earlier posts of cars for sale. Not good, I thought, but the car sounded so nice that I decided to call the listed phone number in OH. I mean. it costs nothing extra nowadays with your cell phone, so why not? Jeff answered, and I wish I could remember his username, but I don't recall, so it's Jeff for now, maybe later I'll come up with his handle. Turns out he doesn't even use a computer and his wife of 50 years posted the ad for him, hence no previous postings except other ads she had posted for him in the past. We talked quite awhile and during the conversation things were mentioned that I could later check, such as address, a son living in New England, etc. And with some difficulty his wife was later able to send me pics that look very nice. Used the amazing abilities of the web to check, and all the little things I had picked up and scribbled down during our "casual" conversation checked out. Called Jeff back, and he agreed to pick me up at the airport, which was only 30 mins from his home, and I flew up from GA using my p*** privileges from the major airline where I worked as an aircraft machinist before I retired. Jeff met me at apt. and we drove to his very nice home. He was retired from a management position in a company in which he had worked his way up from the bottom. By the time the ride was over I felt like he was a good guy, and I ***ure you I'm not naïve! The '40 was on the lift in his shop, up in the air to "keep the dust and the shop cat off". Looked around under it for a long time, and knew that if the topside was as nice as the bottom, it was what I was looking for! When it came down on my request, the bodywork, paint and interior were as near perfect as you could want. Also, there in the next bay was the rolling ch***is of his next project, a '36 Ford, allowing me to see his workmanship. In the back bay was a completed car, an OT Falcon. Seems Jeff's hobby is building hot rods to sell, but building them like they were going to be his forever! Drove the '40, both on surface streets and Xway, and upon return to shop we negotiated a fair deal. Paid him a deposit and we went to Lunch together, and returned to apt. and back to GA. Returned when the weather got better ( this was Feb. in OH). Came back with a buddy in my truck, towing a trailer, and brought the car home. Have been very happy with it ever since. Absolutely no "buyer's remorse". So sometimes. if the item is something you really want, an investigation past what you can find on HAMB can ce worthwhile. Sorry for the novel, but I'm trying to convey that things sometimes are worth a further look.
