how about a free p*** to a distant car show or event, not an expensive trip, but a weekend to the salt flats, drag strip, power tour, car show or some event you never seem to have time for.

My christmas wish is for my families health. funny how age changes things.

car mags can be an easy one for her. Or ill serf the web for a bunch of parts I need and copy and paste them into an email for her so she can look through and see exactly what I want/need. She wont screw it up and order the wrong stuff unless I screw up what site and page I send her to. (I happened last year)

That set of wrenches at Sears that you have had your eye on but couldn't see spending the money even though it wasn't all that much.

I usually make out a list with things in different price ranges for my family because I never know how much money any one of them has or wants to spend.

    This year. Rodders Journal sub
Quilted flannel shirt ( I live in those when i am not at work in the winter).
Gift certificate to Costco so I can use it on something I have been looking at.
A good quality instant on welding helmet.

When we were kids my sister and I would make out Christmas lists to send to our dad using the Sears Catalog with page numbers price and the item number along with what the item was. We put several items in all different price ranges for him to pick from although we each only expected one gift, it actually took him a while to figure out that we weren't asking for the whole list but were giving him several ideas.
We always got something that we wanted and he had an easy time shopping. I still appreciate lists like that from my wife and kids so I have some idea of what they would really like and get choices in several price ranges.

I am a nerd, I admit it. My wife is easy to shop for, I listen throughout the year to her desires and usually do a pretty good job.

I am hard to shop for because I want specific things, very specific, so here is what I do and where the nerd comes in.

I create an excell (well numbers actually as I am a Mac) spreadsheet.

In the spreadsheet I list everything that I could possibly desire, with part numbers, website or store where it can be found, prices, descriptions and if neccesary photo's.

I just started on this years list, at the top are the tires I want, with prices, website, part numbers, shipping etc.

I usually put things on my list that equal the budget we set earlier in the year. That way I get everything on my list.

If the old lady wants to add lib a little then just reduce your list a little in dollars so she can fill in the last $10 or so..

    Works like a charm

I should mention that we donate a portion of our Christmas bduget every year.

We love to do it and hope others p*** it along.

    Here is what we do.

Each person determines the amount they would like to give out of their budget. In past years we typically give around $200 - $300 for the family.

We then break that out into $50 dollar bills.

We then go to our local Wal Mart or wherever.

We purchase generic cards and put the money in them with a note that says...

You have been chosen for a random act of kindness, Happy Holidays!

We then choose families at the store that look like they need the $50 and one family that looks like they don't and then slip it into their carts.

Why the family that looks like they don't need the $$, we hope they catch the bug.

Giving that money away is the best feeling ever, especcially when the kids do it.

    Merry Christmas!

  18. Not very romantic but starting a couple of months prior to Christmas my wife and I start send internet links to each other. Usually a specific item from an on line catalog. We never get everything that we asked for and always get something unexpected. We do a little gift giving within a circle of friends and it is always nice to have a specific no bomb item in mind when someone asks me for a gift recommendation for my wife. Halibrand quick change?? Are you really sure that is what she wants?? Yup, or a plasma cutter.
