Being one of the "my word is my bond" types, I would love to belive that all people are just like me in that way. Life has taught me that they are not. Paypal has saved me from losing thousands of dollars several times.
Tried to purchase an old GMC Blower from an older guy on Facebook last week. Wanted $325. Told him I would Paypal $400 to him and he could ship it to me. Said he would not take Paypal or any other electronic transfer cause he was living on public ***istance and was afraid to have a record of selling something. Wanted me to send him a money order. I declined and said that I would be willing to send $100 via Postal Money order. Then when I received the item I would send the rest. That way we both accepted some risk. Gave him my phone number and asked him to call me. Also told him to check me out on Ebay where I have a perfect record. He said he didn't trust anyone and if I didn't want to send him all the money up front, he wouldn't sell it to me.
He still has it for sale and I still have my money. I have found that often when you are disappointed that you were unable to get something you wanted..........later on you find one that is better than what you didn't get.
While there are some trustworthy people in the world, there are just enough crooks out there that you have to use your head when buying from strangers.:(

Maybe he hasn't sold it because people are smarter than he thinks.

Super simple if people just followed the guidelines.

    1. Nothing is sold until paid for.

    2. If the parties don't know each other personally and it's a long distance sale, only use PayPal goods and services (not friends and family).

    3. Never ever sell anything on the internet via wire transfer or check.
