Guess that I have been a car addict for as long as I can remember. I still have hot rod and custom car magazines that I bought in the 50s starting around the time I was 10 years old Car Speed & Style, Custom Craft, Rodding & Restyling, Custom Cars, Rod & Custom, Car Craft, Hot Rod, Motor Trend, Customs Illustrated, etc, and a lot that I have added since then. Plus two 32 Fords, three Vettes, and miscellaneous parts that have found their way into my garage over the years. My first car was a 38 Ford woody that I got for free at the age of 12. I know, shoot me. Wish I still had that thing. A friend of the family was a contractor and it was his work vehicle very decent on the outside, a little rough on the inside, but it ran. He said casually one night over dinner that he had to get a newer vehicle for work. He knew I was a car freak and he would give it to me if I had a place to keep it (but he knew I didnt). I got on the phone to an aunt that lived 125 miles away on a farm and asked her if there was room in her barn for me to store a car. There was, and the dude kept his word and gave me the car even towed it up to the farm for me. Id go up and drive it around the farm summers, and when I got to around 15 I rented a garage near home and got it towed back. Put a 51 Merc flattie in it w/ a ¾ cam and 2 x2s. Wish I could say it turned out to be the fastest car in the valley, but after a few concept mistakes I got it running right before I graduated from High School, traded it to the guy at our local gas station hang out for the old town cop car (60 Biscayne 348 powerglide 2 door coupe), and got a job @ the Jersey shore for the summer. The summer of 1965. Fast forward through college, marriage, raising 2 kids getting them through college and married, and jobs that have taken me from Philly to Pittsburgh to New Orleans to Brunswick to Montgomery and finally Savannah, GA. About 5 years ago my son (you know him as Tudor) joined the HAMB. Somehow he turned out to be a car nut also, and a son that any Dad would be very proud of. Im not that big a computer person and I didnt spend any time following up on what he was telling me about the HAMB, but over the past 5 years I have had the privilege of meeting a number of great guys from the HAMB at various car shows, and hanging out w/ them a little. Dont know all their call names on here, but these guys have proven to be what I consider the true spirit of hot rodding - past, present, and what I hope is a long way into the future. Wish I had known a bunch of guys like this 30 or 40 years ago, but Im glad that I know them now. There is a lot of great friendship and information circulating on this web site, and I figured I better stop being a dumb ass and get on here and see what I can learn and contribute!
Welcome from Alabama. I have talked to tudor several times SO I am looking forward to meeting you in person.............Bobby........
Welcome ! Your son didn't fall far from the tree - a good thing. We love him like a brother and laugh when he gets sent to the principle's office for fighting on the play ground. I'd love to have a 60 Biscayne!
Welcome aboard from another one of your son's ne'er-do-well friends... the polite (and darn handsome) Canadian one Post some pictures of your cars, past and present.
