Thanks! What's up man? Met you a few years ago, run into each other at day of the drags and round up usually.., know who your talking to?
Thanks man, think I found you on exchangeagram the other day... I was hoping I'd find more pictures of your car...
Hey, just found this thread. Great build! You still working on it? It must be getting close. Can't wait to see more!
Beeeeaaaarrrrrrrrr-ehhhh-itttttttttttt ............. where are youuuuuuuuuu ??????? Hope that made a melody. Hard to sing through a smile. ( Titties help. )
Wow, great thread, great build. I'm so impressed with the talent around this place, makes me feel like such a hack. There's another current thread with a 20 year old building an A coupe (with a Y block) that has another 20 yo and a 19 yo posting in it who are also building A coupes, along with this young man's fantastic work, I'm just floored. My faith in the future is strong, us old farts can relax knowing there are such good hands out there to carry things forward. Good on ya man!
Blues4u, thanks a ton...kidcampbell71 I'm here, updates soon, crazycasey thanks for watching, it's closer but not as close as I'd like...
Been awhile, wish I had more to update on... Progress has been more the acquisition of parts vs real build stuff. Have knocked a lot of the must have items off the list, which feels like progress, but is no fun to talk about. I'll gladly share some of the interesting parts though...
First up is a new intake... I had fun building the log style manifold but stumbled on to something more interesting. While walking a local swap meet I came across a fella selling some early hemi stuff and found this weiand wc3d, never have seen one before so took a chance on it being low deck, cut a deal and took it home. Only to later discover it's a fairly rare early piece, which put the 4 carb on the shelf for good.
For some reason downsizing to just 3 carburetors got me all fired up to sort those out. And for a guy born after the carb's era I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself... Never having fooled with a stromberg before, I bought Vern Tardels book on em, and got busy... All the while doing as much other research as I could. Would like to thank unclemax on here for his help.. All in all i think I ended up using 7 carb's to make 3... Although I have no idea how well they will work yet I'm fairly confident in my restoring/building...
Keeping true to my ways, instead of focusing on the mill I wandered over to a little metal work. Still a lot to go, but here is a few pictures of the driver door Making new hinge section One door with good top good bottom and bad middle, one with destroyed top, bad bottom good middle makes a whole door right?
Decided I wanted to look at some instruments while I day dreamed so moved to the interior for a little while... Thought about a lot of different dash options and after sitting in a friends 32 pickup settled on that one. For those of you wondering a 32 truck dash and an A model get along famously. Yes the gauges are cheap re pops, but they suit me fine...
Then back to the engine again, after blasting the oil pan found pin holes that had previously been powder coated over, (thanks dude on eBay) which prompted replacing the bottom My first up close experience with metal shaping with real tools, thanks to a local friend.I'm not embarrassed to say I fell in love with that trade real fast. I really want to learn/do more of this. While this Little part is nothing special it opened my eyes to countless parts and possibilities in this hobby...
In the meantime I finished up the front and rear brakes, still need to plumb everything but waiting till the body comes back off. I had started a thread on here asking about steering arms that fit happily on these backing plates. I'd like to thank all involved, the answer were these so-cal arms which worked nicely... Boy that was a trick! After my 32 valve non sense (another help thread I started) I was finally able to get these rocker shafts assembled. Again I would like to thank TRwaters here on the hamb for all his help. Converted the factory distributor to Petronix and its ready to go... Important stuff, had the crank checked and cut... Went .020 under which was good news until I priced bearings... Should have just gone to the more common .030 Sent the cam to Isky, which was a great deal, had it re-ground to the 280 hydraulic and sent home with some matched lifters. Another trick, I'll have to get a picture of just how close I cut it, but the distance from pulley to crossmember is stupid tight. Until this little creation came to life I admit I was seriously worried. 340 balancer plus big block Chevy crank pulley machined to fit bought plenty of room.
Recently have been working on more aesthetic stuff, the radiator and grille shell, headlights, tail lights junk like that Have a lot of work in this super hi quality radiator... We'll just have to wait and see how it works. Made new mounting tabs, grille tabs and support rod tabs, as far as junky radiators go, this one is a Little less... It's a little ill fitting because it's a 3" cut rad. In a 2" cut shell... But I can live with it. Once moved to center you hardly notice... Need to finish welding it all in and then quick to be coated black! Not to sure about these yet but here is the Pontiac taillight option... Like I said I don't know if they will stay yet, but I don't hate them...
I'm sure I'm leaving plenty out, various sheet metal work, more involving the engine, but that pretty much brings you up to date. I'm currently waiting on Pistons other motor stuff, and the headers to come back from the chrome shop, can't wait for that...
Looking great. With those Strombergs keep the fuel pressure low, 1-2 PSI. Mine leaked like crazy with too much pressure
