I’ll be darn. I just went back to see (never use that page on my phone) and it not there. Did you always have your birthday in your profile? Or just put it in today? Might make a difference I dunno.

  11. Finally able to have my own birthday celebrations, enjoyed my steak, mashed potatoes, and German chocolate cake.

not only do i share a birthday with my Grandma, but i share one with willie nelson too!
i also fixed the oil pan on that beetle, i hate rtv only gaskets, they take forever to do.

  12. oh yeah... everything from before is "forgotten" in a sense.

no felony speeding at least, i don't even have anything fast enough to get that charge, haha.

  13. Nice, I love mashed potatoes, even the fake ones. My girlfriend makes those with heavy cream and butter. Can't beat a good steak made at home most of the time.

  14. everything is better made at home. its why its so hard to justify going out to eat!

today i made a major mistake.

i hooked my tach up backwards, the main ground was on the coil, and the coil ground was on the carb stud, the moment i hit the key the ignition wire went up in smoke.
now i need to see how much damage that caused and pray that its only the one wire i need to replace.

  16. currently i have the battery cables completely removed. im gonna a use a wire with a fuse inline instead of an unfused connection.

Always put a fuse on everything! Once you let the smoke out of a wire you can’t put it back in!

  18. remember when i said id do it this weekend? i lied.

Take a look at engine bays. Safety wire isn’t what’s needed. Think of it as cleaning up and organizing your bedroom. Safety wire is for mechanical fasteners, not wiring.

I see. That’s an art (I won’t do or try to learn) others may disagree, but that’s more suited for a show style of car, meaning engine out, bay painted up, etc. just my thoughts. Zip ties, plastic loom zip tied doesn’t look as nice, but will today it up.
I’ve wired a few vehicles for me, not for others that want to scrutinize what I did.
If the hood is down and everything is secure- it’s good;)

  25. That is known as continuous lacing. Some military wiring specs (mainly company-internal) nix it since it makes rework/repair more difficult. Rockwell used it on some of their electronics I have seen. If you want to lace, just do it as single-points and learn how to tie the knots correctly so they stay tied... or use zip ties... I run mine through some split sleeving I got from Summit, very tidy.

  26. i meant to post this yesterday, but fell asleep before i could.

got the old wire out, if it had a fuse it would have survived

    Fuses are your friends!

  28. this is one of the few completely unfused wires on the car. the rest are covered by the breaker on the light switch... if it still works

  29. also, i decided while im at it, i might aswell replace my generator brushes, the springs both were broken, and one had a broken lead, its a wonder the thing worked at all before i broke the lead. 20230504_190209.jpg

@e1956v do you have any advice for what i should do while its apart?

Take a scotch brite pad and shine up the area the brushes ride. Make sure the brushes move freely. Do not put any flat spots in the armature!! Use a drill to spin it!
