No problem, Jer. Just go real fast so you don't get hung up in the middle...

Too excited to be concerned about shut doors and phones off the hook.

Jer, I think any auto parts store will have what you're looking for.

The car turned out GREAT!! I'm glad you were able to get it as low as Junior had his, but now you'll be flattening rockers just like he did! :D Have fun with it! You ought to have a north Fort Worth get together to check it out.. I'm in Watauga. :)

Thanks for the (on going) help. I'm convinced Jr didn't go anywhere without a plan (road condition).

This is a look at the front cross member. At this point I'm actually bouncing (for real) off the lip of the garage floor (at the sway bar) as I'm trying to enter. This is with 2x4 and 1x3 shims at the lip. Or taking a divot out of mt Everest (see post #789). Of course it would help if the sway bar was mounted correctly. At this point the car is actually lower than Jr had it. The f. end is lower than the rear. The third pic is showing it raised up(maybe an inch). The fourth shows it (Jr's) at its lowest . Did Jr need a stool for a boost to get in because it was so high? Maybe now I can actually go somewhere without a trailer.

    Hey Jivin Jer,

Any more suspension problems like these and your new ride will be "too low to show"!!

Congratulations on a top-flight build, and for including the rest of us in the long and careful process. Still think your '50 should be put on permanent display at our nation's Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC. Greatest example yet of true Americana!!

Well true, in my case, but getting out of the driveway the first time (since lowered)? Actually think it's a good thing, better to be pushing the low envelope than leaving something on the table. Sure looks good.

  18. been around plenty of customs and lowered cars, it always hurts when bottoming out I hate it ! My bellflower tips on my Merc are getting alot of abuse.... LOL

We're going to start detailing under the hood. Pic #1 before. Pic #2 a little better. There will be some hours put in here. The radiator will be chromed.

The hub caps were 54 Olds with Lincoln Mk 11 hubcap blades. They were mated to an aftermarket bullet. The blades were stainless steel and were all carefully ground to fit. Jr is supplying all the labor here. He just went down to the Lincoln dealer and ordered a bunch.

I'm glad that I decided to do Jr's last, and his most liked version. It correctly (I think) makes the focus the teenage Jr Conway. I was talking with him the other night and he mentioned that he was 5-10 years younger than his peer group. This would be the Barris Kustom crew and hang arounders. An astounding accomplishment. Not to mention that I got out of having to do those hubcaps and fender skirts.

It's actually a fraction of an inch lower in the front. A big no no.

My favorite pic of the young Jr. (2nd from left) reacting to all the stimulus of his environment (Barris Kustom). To some it was just another day at work. This is probably 1956.

So, we can slide the jack under the bumper but, not under the X member for a lift. This is the solution to the problem. It was nice while it lasted but, this is lowest it will have been. It's all up from here.

What a strange place to be on this car. The more its raised up the more practical it becomes. This means that I can DRIVE it to the mech. shop (carbs ,timing, misc.). The muffler shop (relocate exhaust tips, l side pipe).

I should have ins.on it this week. HEY! This really might be a driver.
