Hi gang! Every body that knows me knows that I am a complete fanatic about vintage paper. I own everything in hot rod print, basically, ever. My collection was actually started for me before my birth. Sounds a bit weird, but true. So what came before mid 1964 I have had to collect on my own. About ten years ago, I picked up the December 1954 issue of ROD & CUSTOM at a swap meet, and this fell out. A letter from the NHRA dated 6-15-54. I figured it's sort of a slow news week, and we have threads going on Business cards, why not show this off! It's a form letter, but the actual signature is the real deal, whether or not it's Wally's hisself, who knows... There was also a page out of a magazine in the envelope, so I scanned both sides of that too. I have been trying to figure out if they are related for all the time I have had them. The magazine pages have a sort of silly story about a '33 Desoto with a Willys engine under the seat, and the driver up front. Enjoy! Chip
Louvers, I love this kind of stuff. If this site is about tradtion, then what can be more tradtional than a letter from Wally himself? As to your mania for collecting anything concerning hot rods, I have the exact same thing! Can you imagine that. And, to the best of my knowledge, there is no known cure, short of the final one that cures us all of disease - death!!!
Thanks old and crusty! I was kinda back and forth as to whether or not to start this thread, but I had to show this somewhere. I love these little time traveler kinda stuff. To think that letter was tucked in that magazine 55 years ago, and not pulled out 'till I found it, that just sort of makes you think...
Now that is a really cool find. Just imagine if that mag had been discarded after being read. Might want to frame that issue and make a wall display out of it. I'd venture there isn't a lot of things like this with a personal touch from Wally. With him being gone now this kind of stuff will just become more valuable. Frank
