Yep, sounds like it was pretty obvious that it wasn't abandoned.

As for the tractor pointing to scrappers, not always, tractors have their own fans. I see them at farm auctions all the time... they're as serious about old tractors as we are about old cars.

For what it's worht,i hope you find the bastards and nail 'em to the wall (or otherwise). My uncle's storage barn got ransacked (spelling?) by a local crackhead about a year and a half ago, they took his aluminum ladders, jumper cables, etc.,as well as some vintage aircraft parts and sign fixtures for his business. It all went into the shredder apparently, gone forever. We pressed charges and he did get charged but he has yet to see a dime.

All the above are good suggestions. Any neighbors that may have seen something? If the police don't/won't get involved, then go with a Private Investigator. I'm going out right now to relock my access gate, not that it would stop anyone, just slow them down a bit. Good luck on your seach. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Yet another example where my 3 Punishment System would be perfect. I think almost all crimes can dealt with using one of three punishments: hand spread out on a metal table and whacked with a ball peen hammer; Criminal stands up and is tied to posts, spread-eagle fashion, and the victim gets to take one free kick to the balls; make them dig their own hole and then give them a bullet to the head.

I predict crime would drop dramatically, and recidivism would all but become non-existent. People will take a chance of being killed, but nobody is going to take the chance of an undefendable kick to the balls. And those that do get it will NEVER do anything to get another.

Call the cops, get the VIN registered as stolen. And get a subscription to the local Bargain Shopper, Farm Shopper, Tradin' Post, Thrifty Nickel, etc. and look for the tractor to show up. It could take a few months, until the heat dies down.
Also, go to all the local feed stores, farm stores and country auto parts stores and stick up Stolen posters for the tractor. Someone might notice their neighbor owns a rollback and has a new/old tractor.

Same here, I hope they can get ones that took the car, and tractor. I hope they can stop the junkyards from taking the cars, and other things they know have been stolen.

Those scrap thief bastards are seriously fucked in the head. They will even take what is nailed down! MY brother has a resto shop in an old factory type building which has been divided and rented to anyone that needs a space to run whatever business or just use it for storage.
Well anyways this asshole rents an area in the back and overtime various vandalism starts. He stripped wiring out of tractor trailers, any metal found disappeared. He even ran his truck into into the pump house for the fire sprinklers and took the pumps and motors! The best was middle of the night tied rope to a large electrical conduit run in the ceiling and tried pulling it down with his truck. What a lucky son of a bitch....it WAS LIVE and a witness said he saw a huge blue flash but some how he didn't get hurt. Man what an opportunity for the darwin award. They finaly arrested the bastard.
What I am trying to tell you is...Don't overlook or trust anyone because youy figure they wouldn't be that bold/stupid.

Man Darwin Award or Poetic Justice?

Yeah don't worry my brother told him if he finds him down by his shop he would kill him regardless if he was even stealing anything. "If I find you by my shop you are dead you piece of shit!" I believe those were close to the actual words. And he did clarify that he was not joking. He has had no problems with the guy. Must be smart enough to understand the basic language.

That sucks but I'd be it was scrappers and that stuff is long gone. My local scrapyard has a deputy that stands guard at the gate watching for anyone coming in with a car reported stolen or an abnormally large amout of phone wire

Sorry to hear of your loss will keep eye out here in central Kansas.
I would like to alert every one about a stolen Model T Touring from here. It was a restored 1926 Touring car with an older restoration all black paint in running condition. Stolen in December from a locked barn in the country.
The car was a family hierloom and had tremendous sentimental value. It just disgust me the lack of respect these people have.
