I've been shopping for tires for my Halibrand Smoothies, and I've been having no luck with finding a nice matching set in 15" size.

The rims are 15" x 4.5" up front and 15" x 8" for the rears, and will be going on my roadster project.

I'm looking for sort and norrow tire for the front and tall and wide for the rear. They also need to be bias-plys and black walls. I'm not sure to go with ribbed or smooth side walls.

Any feedback and pictures would be appreciated!

    Matt

Firestone Ribbed up front and Dirt Tracks on the back.

I dont think anything else is going to look good on a rear rim that is 8" wide, any other bias ply tire is just going to look to balooned out unless its a cheater slick and that doesn't really fit the look of the car.

I had about the same wheel on my car , sold wheels / tires but kept car.Tires are Firestone from Coker.Fronts are 6.40-15 , rears are 8.90-15.Rears this size only come in whitewall,I turned it in and painted it out.Rears are the greatest overall dia. that Firestone makes at 31".On my car a smaller tire size looked wrong ,front and rear. If your after a '40's , early '50's look as I was , remember that the smallest 15" tires in the early '50's were not what many use today.Smaller tires really weren't available until the VW got popular in the mid '50's............

I have 5.00-16's on 4 1/2" wide wheels in the front, and 8.20-15's on 6" wide wheels in the back.

I'm trying to keep the look of a 50's hotrod, but the width of the 15" rear, a 4 ply belted tire of the 60's might be a better option! Like a Firestone Indy gold stripe tire, if they can be found!

Has anyone ever fit a 8.90 comfortabily on an 15" x 8" rim.

Thanks for the tips so fare everyone!

    Z.D. are the rears 6" or 8"?

I've seen 8.90's on 7" rims with a little room to spare!

What do ya think of 60's stlye tires were I could get a wider profile/tread?

I think they were 7"? maybe 8".Can't remember for sure.I had 4 wheels all the same size so I had fronts cut to 5" or 5.5"........Sorry I can't remember more details.I did buy 2 other pairs of rear tires before I got the 8.90's.Anything smaller looked like gokart tires..........

I'm thinking of going with B.F. Goodrich Silverstones, 5.00 and 8.20's.

Anyone have a good picture of these being used!

Tubes or no tubes? That is the question!

An 8.90 is perfect on an 8" wheel. The cross section is 8.8" the tread is 5" wide and the height is 31" that's as tall as you can get.

Firestone Indy tires didn't get popular 'til the late 60's into the 70's. Those tires are too low and too wide.

8.20x15 rear 5.60x15 fronts even a 6.00 on the front looks good. Rears about 28-29 inch o.d fronts about 25-26 o.d. and they ride nice @ 120 mph side wall is your own personal preforance.

  29. Perfect choice ! and unlike the the ribbed fronts and dirt trackers there DOT legal.

  30. Looks good.

Do the wheels have the SCTA mandated back-up plate on them?

If so, are they mild steel, plated, stainless?
