I'm still in mockup mode........ I've done the basic Tardel/Bishop rear spring thing. I want to use my rumble seat so no Z'n.....any suggestions for getting maybe another 1" or 2" down in the back?
Model T spring and or expirement with removing leafs I cant remember how many I took out of mine but it was a few for sure, the top ones dont have much affect on the spring rate it seemed like, but you may have to use shims afterward on the bottom side of the spring to clamp it back down. If that makes any sense.
Sorry....it's an A spring. I'm thinking all that's left for me on the A spring to do is to de-arch it some?
Thank you. I also understand there are different A springs and it's the Roadster spring I need to start with. This one I think is a Tudor. I understand, the T spring is narrower. Wouldn't a good spring shop be able to make a T spring but with the width of an A spring?
I'm going through the same thing with my 31 roadster.I'm running full fenders and really not happy with the space between the top of the tire and the fender lip.Sorry i don't have any pics to post, but i'll try to get some . Anyway,i'm using a stock roadster spring with reversed eyes on the main leaf.I think it had 9 leaves in it's stock form and i took 2 out. It seems a bit mushy with the 2 leaves out (the short ones) and really didn't effect the height much.I have a late T spring but it is the same width as the A spring and actually 2 1/2 inches higher in the center so that's not gonna help.A quick experiment using just a main leaf showed that it increased in width the same distance that it decreased in height when compressed (is there some mathamatical principle at work here? ) so my plan is to shorten a main leaf and have the eyes re-rolled .If my experiment is accurate,i should be able to lower the rear of the car by about the same distance as the amount i shorten the spring. Of course i'll have to add or subtract leaves until i get the spring rate i want.It all sounds good but i'll report back in about a week .Bob
