It may have in been in an issue of R&C. I once read it was made by von dutch. I think it was chromed to. thanks, showrod
it was in an issue of LOWRIDER MAGAZINE in the mid 90's i remember seeing a picture of it. as far as which issue i don't recall sorry. and yes it was fully chromed but i forgot who built it but it only had small old pics of it. but it was brought up because of the feature lowrider bike which was a bit of a clone.
i'm looking around on the net to try and find pictures but so far it says George Barris built the bike for eddie
Is this it? http://blogs.lowridermagazine.com/6202126/miscellaneous/the-history-of-lowrider-bike/index.html CB
if eddie muster rode that thing im never watching the munsters again...LOL i dont think thats it though
nope. the bike is basically a schwinn stingray but instead of having a normal tube frame the frame is made of chain links in the same style as a traditional stingray and the frame was then chromed out.
LoL yeah i guess so....hmm i wonder if they have ever seen the pics from the late 70's and early 80's of my uncle and his friends with their lowrider bikes???? maybe my uncle "originated" the lowrider bike???
god i have to go lay down, all these years and my life is reduced to pictures of cool stuff i wanted as a kid, here is the link,, http://www.chopperbicycle.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2196 ,a guy named BRUCKER WAS HUGE COLLECTOR OF ROTH AND OTHER 60'S STUFF, HE HAD AN AUCTION YEARS AGO ANDA BUTCH OWNS THE BIKE NOW IT IS OVER AT BARRIS'S PLACE, YOU CA NGET A NEW PHOTO WITH HIM AND THE BIKE FROM HIS WEBSITE
It is discussed in one of the Von Dutch books- and the bike was later part of the Jim Brucker Movieworld Cars collection. Aaron Kahan has the original Von Dutch painted show card for that bike from Movie World.
I just got off the phone with Aaron who has an immense amount of Dutch, Roth, Barris inside dope rolling around in his head. After interviewing Bird Betz for the Von Dutch book here is the story in short. Dutch and Skip Barret built the bike for the show, and it was obviously put on display by Barris through the years due to his connection to the Munsters via the Munster Coach. Funny thing was, as Bird told it, that he saw the bike being built as a boy, and thought it was for him, but it went on to be Eddie Munsters bike. He remembers Dutch welding chain links for the frame. Oh yeah, by the way, this is not meant to feed a Barris bashing post. Also, as Jim said, Aaron scored the Dutch painted museum sign that stood in front of the bike at Brucker's Museum from the Von Dutch auction awhile back.
A while back I was watching a documentery type show on the munsters they showed one quick b&W picture of eddie on the bike it looked all chrome and a lot cooler. just thought it would be fun to build one like it for my kids. thanks showrod
i love munsters stuff. got a collector card of that thing on my fridge. (its a chrome foil card so scanned like shit) it says in between takes eddie used to ride it all around universal studios in full getup. id never seen a color pic of it like oldchevysellers. i kinda hoped it was more tarnished/older lookin than that in real life
There is a Stingray Trike hanging in Planet Hollywood, in Orlando's Downtown Disney. Link to a pix that shows it in the top right cornerhttp://www.planethollywood.com/restaurants_orlando.htm I was told/read, that it was the Munster Bike??? Hmmm any one know what I'm talking about ??
Here is the Cars of the Stars Museum show card by Dutch that stood in front of the bike. Thanks Aaron. D.
This is the first time I've seen a pic of the bike on scene, and never in an episode, but I saw it before it went to the TV studio. It was built in the Roth shop and Ed's 2nd oldest son, my old bud Dennis, came riding it to elementary school one morning and showed it off. He was always the BMOC to me, but especially that day. It was black painted chain then, not gold or whatever it became. So maybe it continued to evolve before the shootings. I remember the chain frame, tassels, and spider web windscreen, but not the cool seat. It supposedly was only seen in promos for the show.
