Hot Rods A little "T n A" question...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Detonator, Aug 5, 2008.

  1. I'm gathering up pieces for a Deuce chassis: I've got some useable rails, a '40 rear end, and an A rear cross member. I've also got both an "A" and a "T" rear spring. I'd prefer to use the T. I like the arc, plus sitting on the floor together it's about 3 inches lower than the "A." Here's the question: The T spring's only 2 inches wide and the A cross member is set up for the 2 1/4 inch wide A spring. Can I do something as simple as weld in some 1/8 inch plate on the walls of the cross member to take up the gap-osis?

    How'd you handle this?

  2. sounds like a good plan to me

Just use a T rear crossmember and clamps. 26-27 is wider than 09-25

  4. No need to pack it - the spring isn't held in place by the sides of the crossmember. Just clamp the T spring in - done job.

That is worth looking at to see if the arch of ther spring pocket differs 26-27 vs 28-31. Welcome to the HAMB 28hiboy.

  6. Hey, now that's what I like to hear. I guess the spring pack bolt's going to center it, and the A U-bolts are going to keep it from bangin' around. I tend to over-think this shit. Thanks.

..and I liked the WSM quote --

Your rear wishbones or hairpins will keep the spring from wigglin'... so no need to fill in the gap-osis....
