So hi ya'll, this is my first post of many to soon come. Been reading through all your great posts and am loving some ofthe great info and knowledge that is here. Everyone should give themselves a pat on the back for maintaining such a great and supportive community. But now to my real reason for posting. I recently purchased an original '31 A model coupe. Its currently on its way over from the states. I have utilised Tim from Ameri Freight Logistics, who has been fantastic to get the car from Iowa to California. He made things really easy and was great to deal with. Its now on a container being imported through JT American Imports (melbourne) www.123engines.com. Dealing with John who has also been very helpful and a real pleasure to deal with, pretty cheap too!! Anyway the plan is to hot rod it real traditional 60s style. I have a '65 425 nailhead, to go in it but that will be a way off yet. To start with I'll be dropping the front, putting on some '40 wheels and brakes, chopping the top about 3-4" and getting running on the 4 banger!! Can't wait. I will keep you all up to date on the whole process, of importing, transporting, chopping, changing and registering. Hopfully this will provide some insight to those of you looking to do something similar. Attached are a few pics off ebay of my new project, its a pretty good starting point...wish me luck!!
This will be a fantastic start every thing is there that you need. Sure is an easier build when the sheet medal is so clean. Keep us informed on you progress. Very cool indeed................. CRUISER
That looks so complete I reckon you're mad if you don't get it running and registered first before you pull it apart to rod it. It will make the whole process so much easier. Nice car Pete
what pete said.......get it running & regoed as is, then keep it registered whilst you take it off the road and rod it......that way all you have done is "modify" an existing registerd car. Nice find and look forward to watching your build................Bert
Oh yeah the plan is to register it first. You're absolutely right it will make things heaps easier down the track
Thanks Pete, yeah its getting some really good feedback. You coming to the show this weekend. Thanks to everyone else. It will be here in 7 weeks so stay tuned for more photos and write ups then. Cheers
Willo, I too just got a 30 Model A 5 window coupe. It is a very clean car. Runs and drives great with the stock motor. It even has an electric overdive. I started today by pulling the front axle out for a drop and tube shocks. It already has juice brakes. So part of the work is done. Craig
By the sound of it, this will be on the road before your Charger ay! Looks the goods mate. By the way, bloody great car show over the weekend! Had stacks of fun, Was glad to be involved. Kyle
First of all, welcome aboard! We love the guys from down under. Ya'll build great cars and have great attitudes with great ideas. Whew! Let me take a minute to get up off my knees...OK. Some good ideas already. I have the feeling this is going to be one of those builds where you make it happen in less than a year and make me feel bad about the 3 + years I've taken to get half way done... All joking aside, keep us posted, take lots of pictures and be sure you post the mandatory first run video near the end. Good luck mate.
