H guys, Am ready to put my front axle together for my coupe. Dropped the axle 3", split the bones and made my own bungs .New perches, pins, shackles. beveled the bottoms of the leaves, [thanks to a thread I saw on here.] Gonna run a dreaded SBC 327 and T-5. Was wonderin how many leaves to use for a decent ride. Could use some input b4 I nail it together. Thanks

Stock A springs have 10 or 12 leaves. Old standard procedure was to remove the odd-numbered leaves above the main leaf(1). Depending on the age of the spring you may end up with 6 or 7, a good place to start. It may take a time or two to get it right.

Im running a main of course and 3 on top of that for a total of 4 leaves. "A" frame with a flathead and '39 trans. I had to cut 3 leaves and use the centers as spacers to take up space under the main so the clamp would work right. I think a stock front uses 7 or 8 leaves originally. mine sits pretty damn low for old stuff with a reverse eye main but it still has enough travel to work.
