Maybe a bit elaborate, but some ideas may help..

 

Several Years ago there was a tech article on here, making a Model A bed. It was posted by a fellow from Barrie Ontario, with a yellow RPU. Haven't seen him on for a while. It was a very good article, lots of information, on the fabrication, along with dimensions.
